PostSubject: About angels~   Mon May 15, 2017 2:23 pm

Now that we've kind of brought up the subject, seems like a good time to see what the Bible tells us about them.

Angel: in Greek angelos and the Hebrew malawk, both meaning "messenger", speaking of their function, not their nature.

The same word has been used for people: Haggai was referred to as “Jehovah’s messenger [malawk]” (Haggai 1:13). God, through Malachi, referred to a priest as “my messenger [malawk]” (Malachi 2:7). And, John the Baptist also was referred to as a “messenger” [malawk—3:1]. Matthew (11:10) likewise called John the Baptist a “messenger” (angelos).

We think of angels as spirits  (Hebrews 1:14)
without flesh or blood (Luke 24:39)
that cannot marry (Matthew 22:30)
are created beings (Nehemiah 9:6; Colossians 1:16; Psalm 148:2,5)

though immortal (cf. Luke 20:36), they are not eternal-NOT DIETY,
and are not to be worshipped (Revelation 22:9)

Angels worship and serve God (Isaiah 6:2-3;) (Revelation 22:8-9)
can take on human form  (Genesis 16:10-12)  (Luke 1:26)
Acts 7:38,53,      Exodus 19:18-25  (Hebrews 1:13-14)
angels even take the spirits of the righteous dead into a state of happiness (Luke 16:22).

called “sons of God” in (Job 1:6; 38:7)
stronger than men (2 Samuel 24:16),
more intelligent (Daniel 9:21-22),
swifter (Daniel 9:21) than any mere man.
angels are intelligent (Daniel 9:21-22; 10:14; Revelation 19:10)
have emotions (1 Peter 1:12—desirous; Job 38:7—joyful).
They also possess free will and the ability to reason (Jude 6; cf. 2 Peter 2:4).

they will accompany Christ at His Second Coming, “rendering vengeance to them that know not God, and to them that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus” (2 Thessalonians 1:7-Cool.

There is discussion (debate) as to the time of their creation in the last part of the link.

Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
1Thessalonians 5:16 -18
