North Korea Fires Ballistic Missile Which Passes Over Japan

All the diplomatic posturing, the jawboning, the UN sanctions, and threats over the past three weeks has achieved absolutely nothing because as Yonhap and NHK report, North Korea has just launched an "unidentified" missile eastward from the capital Pyongyang.
A live feed from NHK in English is available after clicking on the image below:

According to Yonhap, "North Korea fired an unidentified missile eastward from the vicinity of Pyongyang this morning," the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said. It added that South Korea and the United States are analyzing additional information.
Following the launch Japan has issued a missile alert to mobile phones and on national television, with the government advising people outside to take shelter immediately.
Worse, it appears that the missile has once again flown over Japan:

  • N.KOREA MISSILE PASSES OVER JAPAN'S HOKKAIDO, GOVT SAYS

As NHK further adds, the missile which was launched at 6:57am local time, passed over Hokkaido at 7:06am local time, and came down in the Pacific Ocean, some 2,000 KM east of Japan's Erimo Misaki.
The missile flew a total of 3,700 kilometers, according to Yonhap.
Japan's cabinet minister Suga said that the missile situation is similar to that on August 29, NHK adds, and that Japan will take appropriate response in contact with the US and South Korea.
NHK adds that Japan did not attempt to shoot down the missile, while the South Korean presidential office notes that the country's national security council will meet at 8am local time.
Separately, according to South Korea military, North Korea fired unidentified missile in eastern direction. South Korea's president Moon will chair a national security meeting shortly.
And now we await whether the US will finally escalate militarily or once again use even harsher, and more powerless, language.

North Korea is reportedly moving a Hwasong-14 missile launcher into position, ready to launch immediately, following its threats against the U.S., Japan, South Korea, and the United Nations. The missile has an effective range that can reach the U.S. West Coast and even the United Kingdom.
September 14, 2017

The Japanese military claimed Thursday that the missile launchers North Korea is now moving are loaded with Hwasong-14 missiles capable of reaching the U.S. or United Kingdom.
The Hwasong-14 is the intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM, test launched tice earlier this summer, which is thought to have an effective range of more than 6,200 miles. Alaska is only 3,500 miles away, while Hawaii is less than 4,700 miles away, and the U.S. mainland is about 5,000 miles away—well within the missile’s range.
The distance to the UK is about 5,400 miles.
Japanese media, following the North’s threats to “sink” the entire Japanese archipelago under the sea, are reporting the missile is already fueled and ready to launch immediately. The move could be retaliation for the latest round of UN sanctions, which the Korean propaganda machine lashed out at on Wednesday.
Japan’s Chief Cabinet Secretary, Yoshihide Suga, responded:
Quote :
"This announcement is extremely provocative and egregious. It is something that markedly heightens regional tension and is absolutely unacceptable."

The mobile launchers were first seen moving into position for an imminent launch Wednesday.

North Korea once again tested its Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile Friday, proving it is capable of striking the U.S. island territory of Guam.
September 14, 2017
Thumbing his nose at the U.S., its Pacific allies, and the United Nations, North Korea test-launched another ballistic missile Friday morning, sending the projectile over Japan's northern island of Hokkaido along a tragectory similar to its Aug. 29 missile test.
The missile flew over Hokkaido at 7:06 a.m. local time and splashed down 1,250 miles away in the Pacific Ocean 10 minutes later. International affairs analyst Ankit Panda, who specializes in Asia-Pacific relations and has deeply studied the North Korean missile program for the Council on Foreign Relations, said the missile was likely a "minimum-energy tragectory"—meaning a tragectory that provides the maximum range—test of the Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile.
He wrote:

If I'm right, this might be the first full-range flight of the Hwasong-12 IRBM. They might choose to declare it operational after this test.

Japanese military officials said the missile, likely identical the one fired Aug. 29, reached an apogee, or maximum altitude, of approximately 480 miles and landed 2,300 miles from its launch site at the Sunan Air Base near Pyongyang International Airport. Panda said this is well in excess of the range necessary to follow through on Kim Jong-un's threats against Guam.
