Kamala Harris portrays herself as the champion of the little guy, but as Attorney General of California, she received a letter from the San Diego office requesting an investigation into Herbalife. Two weeks after she received that letter, Harris received the first of three campaign donations from Heather Podesta, wife of Tony Podesta, who had represented Herbalife since 2013. An investigation by the Federal Trade Commission found that Herbalife was running a pyramid scheme and was fined 200 million dollars. It was also discovered that the product contained toxic ingredients that caused liver damage.
