India orders tourists to leave Kashmir over 'terror threat' - NEW

Thousands of people, including tourists and Hindu pilgrims, are leaving Indian-administered Kashmir after local officials issued a security alert.
Indian authorities warned of a "terror threat" against Hindu pilgrims heading to the Amarnath shrine.
Militants backed by Pakistan were planning an attack on the annual pilgrimage, officials have said.
India accuses Pakistan of backing militant groups based in Kashmir, something denied by Pakistan.
The 45-day pilgrimage began on 1 July and about 300,000 pilgrims have visited the cave shrine, located high in the Himalayan mountains, according to AP news agency.
Kashmir's government has advised them to leave the area "immediately", causing panic as visitors scramble to organise transport.

Around 20,000 Hindu pilgrims and Indian tourists, as well as more than 200,000 labourers, were in the process of leaving the region, a local government official told Reuters news agency.
"In the interest of safety and security of the tourists and Amarnath Yatris [pilgrims], it is advised that they may curtail their stay in the [Kashmir] valley immediately," Kashmir's home secretary, Shaleen Kabra, said in a statement.

Security measures, including the deployment of 10,000 extra troops, were implemented by the Indian government ahead of the Hindu pilgrimage.
India has long accused Pakistan of funding armed militants in Kashmir, a disputed territory claimed by both countries.
Militants have targeted Hindu pilgrims in the region before, most recently in 2017, when seven people were killed in an attack.
On Saturday, Britain and Germany warned their citizens against travelling to Kashmir.
Both India and Pakistan claim all of Muslim-majority territory of Kashmir, but control only parts of it.

The countries have been at war four times since the partition following the end of British rule in 1947, and Kashmir, located mostly in the Himalayan mountains, has been a key factor in the conflicts.
Tensions resurfaced in February when Pakistan-based militants killed 40 Indian troops in a suicide attack in Pulwama, provoking military clashes between the countries.

There have been stark developments in the seemingly never ending troubles between India and Pakistan.  Last week, India admitted it had 40,000 paramilitary troops in Kashmir, had sent 10,000 more Thursday and ordered 28,000 more to deploy on Friday, for a total of about 80,000.   NOW, the world finds out that another 100,000 paramilitary troops are actually inbound to Kashmir, bringing troop deployment by India to 180,000.  This is utterly unprecedented and signals India's intent to go to war.
Pakistan this morning began mobilizing its army and air force.
Last night, the Indian army used Bofors guns against "military targets" and "militant infrastructure" on Pakistan side along the Line of Control in Kashmir.  This, too, is unprecedented because of this weapon's firepower.

Early last week, tourists were being officially told to leave Kashmir as soon as possible.  A Holy Pilgrimage by Hindus was cancelled and this morning we find out even patients at Srinagar hospitals are being discharged in a rush.
Whatever the stage is being set for, it's massive.
Given these serious developments, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has called for an emergency meeting of the National Security Committee 
Conversely, the Prime Minister of India has called for a crucial Union Cabinet Meeting for tomorrow.
At the publication of this story at 8:13 AM EDT Sunday, both sides are already exchanging artillery fire along the line of Control.  India claims seven of its troops are already dead.

With military tensions skyrocketing between India and Pakistan, the government of Pakistan has imposed a LIMIT ON CASH WITHDRAWALS from its banks.
People are now limited to 3000 Pakistan Rupee (PKR) per week; which translates into US$18.69 
How anyone can even eat under such limitations is a question now faced by millions  inside Pakistan.

UPDATE 5:34 PM EDT --
Government has imposed restrictions under section 144 CrPC in Srinagar with effect from Midnight 5th August 2019 which shall remain in force till further orders.  This means a CURFEW is imposed.  No one is allowed out between certain hours.
Broadband internet services have been cut in Kashmir. Complete internet ban in valley now.
I can confirm that all phone services have been suspended in the Kashmir valley.
Cell service, phone lines, cable, internet.

Complete communications shutdown except satellite phones.
It’s a total communications blackout.

Indian army and air forces just went to high alert
India imposes Kashmir lockdown, puts leaders 'under house arrest'
Parts of India-administered Kashmir have been placed under lockdown and local politicians reportedly arrested as tensions intensify in the disputed region following a massive deployment of troops by the Indian government.
"As per the order there shall be no movement of public and all educational institutions shall also remain closed," a statement by the government of Jammu and Kashmir, which is currently under central rule, said on Sunday night.
The order said the indefinite security restrictions will be applicable in the main district of Srinagar.
Indian media reports said some pro-India leaders from the region have been placed under house arrest, including former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah.
The measures came after the Indian government moved 10,000 troops to the region last week, followed by an unprecedented order asking tourists and Hindu pilgrims to leave the Himalayan valley.

India has taken steps to officially end the special status of Kashmir, and to ABSORB the contested region into India proper.  The India Parliament will revoke Article 35A of their Constitution and Repeal section 370 which gave autonomy and special status to Kashmir.
Put simply, India is exerting is sovereignty over Kashmir and Jammu in whole. India will most likely move to consolidate its claim and move troops in to take possession. No word yet  concerning the Aksai Chin, the area seized by Pakistan but then ceded to China, so it remains unknown.
Pakistan's reaction to this is expected to be outright, full scale war.
Further developments will be posted below as updates.  Check back.

Autonomy and special status for Kashmir has been revoked. President Ram Nath Kovind has signed the official notification abrogating Article 370.
After moving the resolution to revoke Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday proposed the division of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories - Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir. The Home Minister proposed that the union territory of Ladakh will be without legislature while the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be created with the legislature.
Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Ladakh division of J&K has a large area but is sparsely populated with very difficult terrain. Before making the big announcement, he stressed that there has been a long pending demand of people of Ladakh to give it the status of union territory to enable them to realize their aspirations.
Further explaining its proposal to bifurcate the state, the government added, "Further, keeping in view the prevailing internal security situation, fueled by cross border terrorism in the existing state of Jammu and Kashmir, a separate Union Territory for Jammu and Kashmir is being created. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir will be with the legislature."
