The Hawks arrested a woman in George in the Western Cape on Saturday after receiving information three "young girls" had allegedly been trafficked to South Africa from West Africa in a shipping container.
According to a police report, the Hawks received information on Wednesday that the girls, who were allegedly given fake passports, were advertised on an escort website and being kept in a residential complex in George.
A serious organised crime investigation team raided the complex where they found four females, who the Hawks suspect have been trafficked. The victims, aged between 21 and 47, were rescued and kept in a place of safety after they were taken for medical assessment.
The woman, who is allegedly the caretaker of the premises, is expected to appear in the George magistrate's court on Monday on human trafficking charges.

In the months since Maryland eliminated the statute of limitations for child sexual abuse claims, more than 100 victims have filed a slew of lawsuits alleging horrific treatment inside the state’s youth detention facilities. GAINESVILLE, Fla. (TND) — Two University of Florida biological scientists were arrested last week for allegedly “willfully and maliciously” abusing their two children.
The two had been keeping their 6-year-old and 2-year-old children in improvised wooden cages, according to a police report obtained by The National Desk (TND). “Upon entering [the children’s] room, I observed a large unsanded, wooden enclosure made of pressure-treated 2x4s that appeared to be a makeshift cage,” an officer on the scene wrote. “I observed two stainless steel sliding latches (aka barrel bolts) on the outside of the enclosure’s door.” Police say the 6-year-old told them he is placed in the enclosure at night until about 7 a.m. when he leaves the house for school. He claims he is then placed in the enclosure again after school and left in the home alone. The scientists told police, however, the cages are used to keep the kids from “waking up in the middle of the night and disturbing the house.” While being caged, the children had no way to communicate if they were in an emergency, police said. They also mentioned that the conditions could cause significant physical and mental damage to the children.

Friday, December 15, 2023–9:10 p.m. A former youth minister of a Floyd County church was sentenced Thursday to serve 15 years in prison on child molestation and possession of child pornography charges, alongside another 25 years on probation. When Austin Wray Perkins was arrested on March 9, 2022, as part of a sting targeting child pornography, police discovered he was also the guardian of a minor living at his home who he sexually victimized. According to a police statement at the time of his arrest, Perkins took the child — who had no family or support — into his home and molested him. During that time, Perkins was also a youth minister at Grace Fellowship Baptist Church.
