Sacred metrology and the Bible

It has been a long time since I have posted
anything...probably the last was about a year and a half ago on the old
forum. Between work and family, my real life finally left my internet
presence a mere stint as an occasional voyeur. Such is life. So, I took a
little time off work and put some thoughts together. This is something
that I have been meaning to write for a while now. It takes some of the
ideas that David talked about in TATCOT and expands on them with some
original research and other current topics of interest. I think you all
on this forum will appreciate it. For those of you who remember and, who
knows, might actually miss my past posts, sorry for the long silence,
but I hope this will make up for it! I wrote this as an article intended
for general dissemination, so feel free to do so.




The origin of modern timekeeping goes all the way back to
the ancient Babylonians. They were the first to divide day and night into
twelve hours each, with further divisions of 60 minutes per hour and 60 seconds
per minute. They were the first to divide a circle into 360 degrees (or 6 x 60),
which was also the number of days in their calendar year. In order to
facilitate calculations, the Babylonians even used a base-60 numerical system,
as opposed to the base-10 system in use today. While dividing the day into
hours and minutes might seem like nothing more than a persistent historical
relic, the system in reality directly conceals some profound facts about the
world. These facts, in turn, point to an inescapable conclusion about the
origin and destiny of humanity. If that seems like a rather bold statement to
make, the following should convince even the hardiest skeptic.


The measurements in the Sun-Earth-Moon system correspond to
the numbers codified in not only Babylonian but also other ancient systems of
metrology (e. g. Egyptian and Persian). In modern times, we see these same
values preserved in the traditional English metrology. For example, the
diameter of the moon is 2,160 statute miles, which is also 6 x 360. (source: http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/factsheet/moonfact.html).
The diameter of the Earth is 7,917 miles. This corresponds to 2,520 (7 x 360) x
pi, or 7,916.81. In other words, the diameter of the Moon is a function of 360,
while that of the Earth is of both 360 and pi (the numerical constant used to
derive the circumference of a circle.)




While the exact match of the Moon’s diameter with an ancient
system of measurement might seem like an accommodation after the fact, the
correspondence in the case of the Earth is less likely to be a coincidence (and
a practical impossibility in the case of both!) Example could be added to
example here, but it should be inescapably obvious that just the observed physical
masses of the Earth and of the Moon strongly indicate an intelligent, orderly
Creator. Even so, a few more examples will be offered here to show that the
pattern is discernible and intentional.




The diameter of the Sun is stated by various sources as
being between 864,000 and 865,000 miles. The number 864,360 is the product of 2,520
(7 x 360) x 7 x 7 x 7. Another manifestation of 2,520 is in the distance
between the Moon and Earth. The average distance at apogee is approximately
252,000 miles, according to NASA (see link above.) While these examples deal
with actual distances, in terms of apparent size, both the Sun and the Moon
move exactly 720 times the distance of their apparent diameter in the course of
24 hours. In other words, 12 hours equals 360 diameters. Obviously, the
Babylonians were on to something….




It wasn’t only the division of time and angles that
corresponded to “sacred” metrology, but the measurement of space as well.
Throughout the ancient Near East, builders relied on a “cubit” based on “palms”
of 3.6 inches each. A common cubit was 6 palms or 21.6 inches, while a “royal”
cubit was 7 palms or 25.2 inches. (Ezekiel 40:5 describes the royal cubit used
in construction of the Millennial Temple as a “cubit and a handbreadth”.) The
palms and cubits were therefore fractals of the numbers involved in Earth and
Moon distances, or 360, 2,160, and 2,520. (Modern navigation, by the way of
comparison, divides the Earth into a circumference of 21,600 nautical miles.)
Clearly, the ancient cubit was preserved in the English system of inches, feet,
and yards. Not as obvious is the fact that the English statute mile derives
from equally significant numbers. A mile, or 5,280 feet, can be expressed as:


0.314159265 (a fractal of pi) x 7 x 7 x 7 x 7 x 7




Two ancient structures that reveal the proper length of the
royal cubit, as well as an understanding of its significance, are the Temple of
Solomon and the Great Pyramid of Giza. The Bible in 1 Kings 6:2 gives the
dimensions of the temple as 60 x 20 x 30 cubits, or a volume of 36,000 cubic
cubits. If a royal cubit is 25.2 inches (3.6 x 7), then:


25.2 x 36,000 = 907,200 cubic inches = 75,600 cubic feet =
25,200 cubic yards!


The Great Pyramid, in comparison, repeats these numbers in the
fact that each side is 756 feet, or 252 yards long. Conversion to cubits gives
a length of 360 cubits per side, for a total perimeter of 1440 cubits. It is
quite obvious that the ancients recognized that the world conforms to a sacred
metrology that not only precludes anything but Intelligent Design, but also
points to a spiritual significance that they took great pains to commemorate in
stone.




One of the most important discoveries on the subject ever
made was published by the late David Flynn in 2008. His book Temple at the
Center of Time disclosed his discovery that measurements in distance from
the Temple Mount (TM) to various locations correspond numerically quantitatively,
and sometimes qualitatively, to the timing of significant events involving that
nation/location with Israel. For example, ancient Babylon is 539 statute miles
from the TM, and 539 BC was the year of Babylon’s fall. In the book of
Revelation, the Apostle John wrote down his vision of the destruction of
Mystery Babylon that he received on the Island of Patmos, 539 nautical miles
from the TM. Another example is 1948, which is the year of Israel’s
independence from Britain, and the distance in nautical miles to the foundation
stone of London. By way of interesting comparison, the Kaaba stone in Mecca,
the most holy site in Islam, is exactly 666 nautical miles from the TM! Perhaps
a little Divine commentary?




The clearest time/distance correlation that Flynn discovered
that directly pertains to the special 2,520 number is in the distance to
Rome—specifically, the Lateran Obelisk at the site of the Lateran Basilica,
seat of the Pope’s authority over the Catholic Church. The distance is exactly
2,520,000 yards, or 7,560,000 feet. Both of these numbers have specific bearing
on Rome, both historically and prophetically, as we shall see. First, though,
it is necessary to gain perspective by examining the two central Bible
prophecies regarding the re-establishment of Israel as a nation in 1948, and a
future spiritual re-establishment concurrent with great turmoil, both involving the number 2,520.




In the year 605 BC, Babylon invaded the remaining southern
Kingdom of Judah, beginning the 70 years of captivity (Jeremiah 29:10-14).
Nineteen years later, in 586 BC, Babylon destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple and
took the remaining inhabitants as captives. It wasn’t until the year 538, after
the Medes and Persians overthrew the Babylonian Empire, that the first captives
were allowed to return. The 70 years of captivity officially ended when
construction on the second Temple began in 536. Since this was actually only 69
not 70 solar years from 605 BC, we see that the biblical principle of a 360-day
“prophetic” year is in effect (69 solar years is 70 prophetic years). This same
principle of the prophetic year is the key to understanding the prophecy
pertaining to the length of Israel’s punishment.




Ezekiel 4:5-6 gives the duration as 390 plus 40 years, or a
total of 430 years. Seventy years were completed, leaving 360 years. But God
also said, in Leviticus 26:18, that He would punish Israel 7 times more if they
did not fully repent. We know, from both history and the biblical record itself
in the repeated entreaties of the prophets, that Israel did not fully repent of
her idolatry and other sins, despite returning to the land. So Israel’s
punishment would be seven times the remaining 360 years, or 2,520 years! It is
interesting how the same numbers of sacred geometry show up in Bible prophecy.
The fulfillment, however, is even more fascinating. If we count 2,520 prophetic
years from the year 536 BC, then we arrive at 1948 A.D., the year of modern
Israel’s founding! This astonishing fulfillment is proof of not only the
historical veracity of the Bible, but the ability of the Author of Bible
prophecy, God Himself, to guide and direct history to fulfill the prophecy at
the appointed time. No other “religious” text or faith can claim that. The
Bible is unique! The calculation is as follows:




360 / 365.24 = 0.9856533 (ratio of prophetic to solar years)

2,520 x 0.9856533 = 2,483.85


2,483.85 – 535 = 1,948.85 (536 BC plus 1 since no year “0”)




The number 2,520, when expressed as days, corresponds to the
7 years of the last “week” of years in Daniel chapter 9. The whole prophecy
decreed 70 x 7, or 490 years, for Israel to fulfill her calling and finish
prophesied events. The 490 years were to start at the time of a royal decree
“to restore and to build Jerusalem” (vs. 25). After 483 years, “Messiah the
Prince” would come and then be “cut off”. The prophecy began to be fulfilled in
457 BC, when the Persian king Artaxerxes I sent Ezra back to rebuild Jerusalem.
In the case of this particular prophecy, fulfillment is according to solar
years: 456 – 483 = 27 A.D., the year Jesus Christ began His ministry! Three
years later, in the year 30, Jesus was crucified or “cut off”. So, of the final
7 years in the 490 year prophecy, only about three and a half years remain on
hold. These last few years will be the 1,260 days (3.5 prophetic years)
associated with the Antichrist’s rule (Dn 12:7, Rev 13:5) The 3.5 years of his
rule, also called the “Great Tribulation”, is the mid-point of a final 7-year
period beginning with the rise of the Antichrist and his confirmation of a covenant
with Israel, and ending with the return of Jesus Christ to defeat him at
Armageddon.




The possible identity of the Antichrist, or at least of
someone who will be instrumental in putting him into power, is found in the
measurement between the Temple Mount and Rome. Recall that there are 2,520,000
yards or 7,560,000 feet. The number 756 is telling, since 756 A.D. was a
pivotal year for the Roman Church. (side note: Solomon’s Temple was 756 inches
high in addition to having a volume of 75,600 cubic feet…) It was the year the
Pope received land in return for a kingship in an old-fashioned swap known as
the “Donation of Pepin”. This is the moment Rome first began exercising
temporal as opposed to just ecclesiastical power. The year 756 A.D. was the
year that Catholic Rome first received a kingdom. Since the process began in
751 A.D. with the crowning of Pepin, this pivotal empowering of Rome “mirrors”
the traditional founding of pagan Rome in 753 BC! Furthermore, it was the
unanimous position held by the Protestant reformers that the Roman Church,
through its abuses, doctrinal compromises, and persecution of dissenting
Christians, was the prophesied Whore of Babylon (Rev 17). The pope, or at least
the office if not the individual, was the Beast himself, or the Antichrist. In
view of this, some people, the great Jonathan Edwards among them, thought that
the 1,260 days of Antichrist’s reign are really 1,260 actual years to be
counted from Rome’s empowering. Counting from 756 brings one to the year 2016,
interestingly enough! This is also in range of the 50-year Jubilee from
Israel’s re-capture of the Temple Mount in 1967, as well as 70 years from the
founding of Israel in 1948.




Lest you be inclined to think the “historicist” school of
prophetic interpretation, along with its anti-papist zeal is a relic of the
Reformers, then consider the current Seventh Day Adventist interpretation of
the prophecy. They teach that Rome was empowered in 538 A.D. when Justinian
defeated the Ostrogoths and installed his pope, just five years after decreeing
the Roman bishop to be the head of the Church. So, just as 756 A.D. was the
beginning of Rome’s temporal power, 538 A.D. was the beginning of her
ecclesiastical primacy (and, like Rome and 756, a “mirror” of Babylon’s fall in
539 BC.) Counting 1,260 days forward brings us to 1798 A.D., which was the year
Napoleon’s General Berthier marched into Rome, took Pope Pius VI captive, and
declared a Roman Republic. Although the papal lands were returned the following
year (to a different pope), the apparent, and at least partial, fulfillment of
the 1,260 days demands attention. The likely explanation, as observed
elsewhere, is that Bible prophecy is not restricted to one fulfillment only,
but often events will foreshadow, repeat, and telescope into others. The
obvious similarity between the historical Antiochus Epiphanes and the future
Antichrist is an example. Similarly, the historical “interpretations” of the
1,260 days of Antichrist’s reign are valid on a certain level, while still
pointing to a literal 1,260 days yet in the future, with a literal Antichrist
that may or may not be the pope.




In view of the demonstrated fact of an Intelligent Designer
who is able to direct the course of history, and in view of the only possible
explanation that this same Being is the God of the Bible, the obvious question
is, why doesn’t anyone talk about these things? Doesn’t modern science know
about Earth-Moon measurements? Maybe the more recent establishment of the
metric system has something to do with it. More likely, it is what it has
always been: willful suppression of the truth. The Apostle Paul said, “the
wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and
unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what
may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of
the world His invisible attributes
are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead,
so that they are without excuse.” (Rom 1:18-20) Could Paul have been referring
specifically to the system of sacred measurement that was common knowledge in
ancient times?




Considering the prophetic endpoint of 2016 that is on the
horizon, it is worth noting some rather extraordinary celestial events that
precede it. First, in September and October of 2013, comet ISON will pass
extremely close to Mars, about 6.5 million miles. NASA is already claiming that
this will probably be the brightest comet in centuries, even millennia, visible
in the daytime. The following October, comet Siding Spring will pass even
closer to Mars, as close as 23,000 miles away, which in practical terms could
easily change to an impact. At the least, Mars will pass through the coma, or
cloud, with its trail of meteors. All of this will be recorded by NASA assets
on Mars. Comets, incidentally, have universally been considered harbingers of
great upheaval.




Starting in Spring of 2014 and finishing in the Fall of
2015, a very rare lineup of four total lunar eclipses, called a tetrad, will
occur in a string and coincide with the Biblical full moon festivals, Passover
and Tabernacles. This will be only the eighth time this has happened since
Jesus Christ, every time coinciding with an important event relating in some
way to the Jews or Israel. The last two tetrads were in 1949-50 and 1967-68,
when Israel became a nation and when Israel regained the Temple Mount. What

Regardless of the possible near-term fulfillment of end-time
prophecies, the important thing to realize is that Jesus Christ is our promised
sacrificial Lamb of God. “Therefore as
by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by
the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of
life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the
obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” (Rom 5:18-19) What must we do
to be saved? Believe in Jesus Christ, put your faith in Him for the forgiveness
of your sins, and you will have eternal life. It is that simple. And if you
have read this far with an open mind, then you will know that if you don’t
believe, it is not because you can’t but because you don’t want to!




“For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come,
and will not tarry.

Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back,
my soul shall have no pleasure in him.


But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of
them that believe to the saving of the soul.” (Heb 10:37-39)
