ESSIAC from Herbal Healer Academy (their 4 herb pack):
I’ve sent this letter to numerous people over the years, many with sick pets, so just ignore the references to dog dose, for instance, because originally it was used for people, not pets, but it clearly works for both. There even is a maintenance dose for when there is no active cancer any longer and the testimonials show that it heals much more than cancer.
My golden retriever Bo was diagnosed with liver cancer just before Christmas 2010- a tumor also had developed in his spleen and one in his lungs developed shortly afterward. He wasn’t expected to live more than a couple of weeks- at the very outside maybe a month. Instead I had him for seven more months, and I believe I would’ve had him longer if I had not gotten so sick that I wasn’t able to continue making essiac for him to take daily. Up until that point, he had lost no weight, he still wanted a nightly walk and he was eating 2-3 bowls of food daily. In short, he looked as good as ever for a dog who was 14. Once I no longer could prepare the essiac, he died within 2 weeks, exactly the time period the vet originally had given him to live. This is what happened.
After the diagnosis, with that awful prognosis of only 2 more weeks to live, they told me to bring him home and make his last days happy ones. I put him on Prayers for Pets and a woman wrote to me (copied below in red) about Essiac- an herbal formula used by the Ojibwe Indians in Canada, which was refined by a nurse there in the 1920s. Over the next few decades she treated thousands of people with it and had such good results (both complete healing and long-term remission) that over 60,000 people petitioned the Ontario government to legally define it as an accepted treatment for cancer. They came within 3 votes of doing so when the Canadian Medical Association stepped in, etc. Essiac is used primarily for people but was so successful as a treatment that eventually it began to be used for pets as well. I researched it and decided to try it. It was working for Bo- while I can’t guarantee that it will help everyone, it has a tremendous track record when prepared properly. The article below at the Native American Medicine site gives a full history of it- how it came to be used, the thousands who petitioned the Ontario government to recognize it as a legitimate treatment, government hearings on it in Canada, etc. The initial Prayers for Pets email said her dog was so weak that he no longer could stand and was set to be euthanized when someone told her about essiac. Within days he was up and around, and then he lived 9 more months just as he always had (playful, active, etc.)
I ordered the herb packs from the recommended herbal teaching academy in Arkansas and they got them to me in 1 day. I made the tea, mixing it with natural chicken broth for the dog, giving him a dose 3X daily and he showed no sign of illness for 7 months. I lost my other golden, Zoe, to liver cancer within 2 weeks of diagnosis just as they said and it was horrible on her- it is a very fast moving cancer with poor prognosis, at least in dogs. But Bo still looked and acted the same for months; there was no indication from looking at him that he had ever been diagnosed with cancer. It appeared to work exactly as they claim it can. Even though I eventually lost him, I had much more time with him, time where he wasn’t debilitated and suffering.
In April 2011 we went to the vet and he just stood and stared after walking into the room. He literally was dumbstruck; finally he said that he never had expected to see Bo alive again, let alone looking so well. He said that if Bo still was around in 2 more months, I should bring him back; he wasn’t ready to say that the essiac had any role in Bo’s health or had worked a miracle but instead reiterated how the cancer would take him and how I’d know it was the end. We did return 2 months later and he couldn’t believe it when he saw us, Bo still looking as good as ever. He began talking about whether or not Bo should have heartworm meds for summer. My vet stopped assuming that he would be gone any day. I asked if in his 30 years in practice, he’d ever seen a dog with liver cancer like Bo’s survive over 6 months (which was where Bo was then.) He said that he hadn’t. Then I asked if he’d ever even heard of one and again, he said, “No, but there probably is one somewhere.” Here are the links to HHA and some others for info on essiac:

I can forward other information that I’ve downloaded on essiac, on yew tips, or on Herbal Healer to anyone who is interested. I was uncertain after reading the info at numerous sites whether it was better just to buy the essiac from Resparin in Canada (the company who got the original recipe from Nurse Caisse) so I bought both a bottle of the Resparin brand and the herbal packet they make up themselves at Herbal Healer (the 4 herb bulk tea.) I only had one chance with this since he had so little time left. When it came, (the very next day- they overnight mailed it from HHA at my request) I ended up using the herbal healer packet of herbs because they weren’t all powdered in a mix like the Resparin form. They make a big deal on the Resparin site about using exactly the right herbs, and making sure what you’re really getting since many imitations use different herbs which don’t work for various reasons. Later I learned that Nurse Caisse used the same recipe and exactly the same ingredients in the same proportions as that sold by Herbal Healer. Those cheap imitations found in health food stores or on the internet that use something other than the correct herbs are still called essiac so you have to be careful where you buy it. Having purchased and tried both, I am satisfied that the Herbal Healer preparation is much better than that by Resparin since it now is a large corporation mass producing for profit, while Herbal Healer is basically a concern similar to Nurse Caisse’s home clinic. I found that the HHA 4 herb packets not only worked better, but were cheaper – only $20 for a pack, which makes enough to last a month. I wouldn’t purchase any of the off-brands- too much question about age of the herbs used, potency, pesticides, irradiation, etc.
Essiac also can be purchased as capsules or liquid, (preserved with alcohol) neither of which has the studies or track record of the tea made from herbs- so while they seem convenient, I wouldn’t use them. Deena told me that the mixture detoxifies so that it’s best to start with half a dose for a couple of days and then work up to full strength, so the body doesn’t get hit too hard all at once. That’s what I did with Bo because of her recommendation. I had a question about preparing it and emailed Herbal Healer and had an answer within 24 hours.
I believe that following the directions exactly is critical for its success as a treatment. It must be made with spring or distilled water in a stainless steel or glass pan (NO aluminum) then strained (I used cheesecloth for this) and it is light sensitive so it must be kept refrigerated in dark bottles (glass only, no plastic.) They sell the bottles there if you need them- I bought one for convenience, and the rest of the batch (I only used ½ of the herbs for each batch since that lasted 2 weeks for Bo- the same amount of time that the essiac remained good to be used.) I put the rest in canning jars wrapped in aluminum foil. You use that concentrate to make tea 3X daily as a treatment- one teaspoon for each 10 pounds of body weight . For the dog, I mixed it with Swanson natural chicken broth (low salt, no msg) to dilute to tea strength- Bo wasn’t so big on tea but he loved the chicken broth! It takes a day to prepare the concentrate since it has to steep 12 hours-
Deena said she used it twice daily but the normal dose is every 8 hours so that’s what I did. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I’m so grateful to God for giving me an answer that I’m telling everyone I know about my miracle dog, hoping it can help them also. Bless that woman who took a little time and initially wrote to me. Even at 14 he was still an active, playful dog. I dreaded seeing him go, so I’m sure you’ll understand the elation with each new day that Bo was here, living as he always did. When I became so ill and he ceased getting the fresh essiac every day, he went down fast- within 2 weeks just like they initially had told me. But the essiac had given me 7 months more than he would’ve had without it and that gave me more time to enjoy him and to prepare for the fact that he was getting old and didn’t have a lot of time left, regardless of the cancer. I can’t guarantee that it will do the same for anyone else but it sure created a miracle for my dog and if I was diagnosed with cancer, it’s the first thing I’d turn to.

Georgann
This is the email forwarded to me in December 2010; it originally had been sent to the person who contacted me. I spoke with Deena (the original author, with the dog) by phone and confirmed everything before I ordered the 4 herb pack. Have you heard of Essiac Tea? It is made of 4 herbs, 2 of which help to kill cancer cells. It originally was made by the Ojibwe Indians in Canada . A nurse in Canada , Renee Cassie, gave it to her cancer patients, and it greatly helped them - either extending their lifespan or ridding them of the cancer. It has been used mainly by people, but it also helps pets as well. Our dog, Moe, was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year. The neurologist told us he only had 3 or 4 weeks to live. Just as the neurologist predicted, after about 3 weeks, Moe couldn't stand and couldn't control his bladder & bowels. We made an appt. to euthanize. But a few days prior to the appt., a friend who is very knowledgeable about herbs told us about the Essiac Tea. She told us that you had to be careful where you order it because most websites that sell it do not carry the correct sheep sorrel. (Sheep sorrel is the main herb that kills the cancer cells.) She recommended buying it from Herbal Healing Academy which is an herb teaching school in AR. So we bought some and had it overnighted. After just a couple of days of taking the tea, Moe was able to stand and was much better. So we canceled the euthanasia appt. He continued to get better and better and was running, chasing rabbits and enjoying life again. We called him our miracle dog as we couldn't believe the transformation (and neither could our friends and neighbors). We had 9 more months with him, but then he became sick with a very bad bladder infection. The vet put him on strong antibiotics, and he became weaker and weaker until we had to euthanize. It was so hard to lose him, but we were very thankful to have those extra 9 months with him. From what I've read, the tea works best for stages 1-3 of cancer. But it can help to prolong life even in terminal cases. If you're interested in learning more, here are a couple of website links.
