| Posted on April 19, 2013 April 19, 2013 – KURIL ISLANDS – A large earthquake, initially reported as 7.2, has been recorded in the islands north of Japan. The USGS report placed the quake at a depth of 10km in the Kuril Islands, 258km east-north-east of the Kuril Islands. The initial report of 7.0 has since been revised upwards to 7.2. The quake was felt in Hokkaido and much of the northern island of Japan. It was also reportedly felt in Tokyo. “We have received no reports of damage so far,” a spokesman at the Hokkaido police said, adding there were no reports of injuries. No reports of a tsunami have yet been made.
