PostSubject: I'm living with an agnostic now!   I'm living with an agnostic now! I_icon_minitimeThu Mar 17, 2016 10:20 am

One of my husbands workers needed a place to live all of a sudden (ex-wife probs and such) and I had met him twice when he came to dinner. Very nice, well spoken, honest Marine man about 38.

I am a very shy personal type introvert personality, (ISFJ) and the thought of having a roommate, never in 1million years entered my mind. You know I gotta keep my spaces just the way I like it, no stress.... ha! Well it was the second time he came for dinner and I didn't know he had a home problem and after he left DH and I were just sitting there and this popped unbidden from my mouth "He'd make a great roommate" sheep
I sat there in shock for a minute and Keith my DH, said " well it's really strange that you say that because he's looking for a place and not having much luck finding a roommate... And it's just really, really strange that you said that, period"

I mean, I have anxiety man, even company visiting makes me a bit stressed.
But I was compelled to repeat the offer. And when it comes to something this big, cause who knows how long he'll stay anyway, it was my decision. So I went and cleaned out one of the spare bedrooms and he's even got a huge aquarium in there now. Smile looks like he's staying, I told him where all my stashes were for when I am Harpazo'd, I said the house will probably be yours and he started to laugh and I said, "just remember, when  i'm gathered with the saints I am given a white clothes of linen, but for those who miss it, they have to earn theirs by death or lasting out the Wrath of God. So Don't Take The Mark!

Boy have we had some great conversations! But we are at an impasse, He can't prove evolution to me because its still unprovable and will always be and I can't prove the existence of God to him, other than pointing out the prophecies and the fabulously outrageous odds against all this coming from a spark of unknown matter.
So, I'm leaving it up to the Holy Spirit and all ny years as a mod here has taught me to be calm and a listener so we do not ever get heated in our discussions.

He's never been around a non-religious bible believer either! I've had to explain so many things to him but get this, he prays. To a God he's not sure exists and he sees a woman who follows Jesus teachings on how to be a proper wife every single day as she goes about her business, singing hyms, being very happy and it is having a teensy effect on him.

Heehee! I made him come with me to the chicken house and we blessed all the new baby chicks in Jesus name! I think he thinks I'm like some archaic goofball. And then I was like, "look, chicken or the egg, look at this little thing, it's so cute and a miracle, dude you have to admit the chicken came first" Heehee

It is constantly going on like this.

Well anyway, that's where its at, if you would all pray for him I would be so pleased. He looks like Burt Ward from the 60's batman. lol!  He's on the edge, he just need the Holy Ghost to give him a nudge. You know the bible says it's harder for a rich man to get into heaven than to pass a camel through the eye of a needle and being around a nice, well mannered, thoughtful, helpful person who takes pride in his good manners,  I've realized it's the same for an unsaved "good " person. We will have the talk of all our dirty works being burned but only when it's the right time.

OK! Over and out! Bless y'all, time to get to work! angel bounce Thanks !!

Love it, Delfi.    You may have said yes, but I think it was Somebody else's idea.  angel bounce
You could tell the man how much God loves him, considering where He brought him
and all;  into a house with the Good News where he might abide and hear! thanks

Oh yeah Dovie! I've already told him that! We often are talking and he like to wax philosophical as they say and he starts telling me how he wishes people would treat each other and his theory on life and love and everytime he repeats something Jesus has said, I point it out.

He doesn't know he's quoting the Lord and after a half a dozen times of this I said" You know, The Lord writes his words on mens hearts and all these good ideas of yours are from him" Which then I learned of his pride about being good because he said "I want it to come from me, not anyone else" I said, "You are prideful and it doesn't matter what you want, The Lord is after you, otherwise you would not be living in my house.  It wasn't my idea, it just came out of my mouth and so I went for it. You aren't here out of pity for your situation."

So, yeah, I'm deadly truthful with him and he knows it wasn't my idea and that I think it was the Lords idea.

He talks really fast and tries to get existential on me which has always been hard for me to understand. Derp. So sometimes I record our convo's and listen to them later and study them. He doesn't know I do it but  it helps me because he flits around a lot among many subjects at once. Is that bad?

I feel guilty but my mind isn't as sharp as his still is and sometimes I forget what I meant to say and lose the chance to say it. So, I record it for future use but most of the time I'm just sitting there thinking... "Ok Lord, This is crunch time and my mind is an empty vessel and you gotta help me here, I don't want to steer him wrong or anything.

It does seem like there is a scripture verse for almost every question though. Yet on those good days when I'm answering questions fairly well he tells me I just have an answer for everything..... bad horsey

I was hoping to have a brilliant answer this morning,  maybe one perfect line, but if there is such a thing, it alludes me.
I don't know how anyone can look out to nature or the stars, or life itself, and conclude it all 'just happened' by chance. Or not acknowledge that no man, society, nation, race ever existed who could by their labor or their thoughts, cause the world to be, though history is littered with their failed efforts.
The perfect orderliness that we see in Creation takes more than any personal philosophy.  (understatement of the ages there.)

And who can look over the world and not admit that man is not capable of governing himself.
Even 'good' people, who do good things cannot qualify themselves as worthy to stand before a Holy God.  As Big as the cosmos is, is the difference between the mind of man and God's Holiness.
Yet it is His Good Pleasure to redeem us in order to give us the Kingdom.  That is His Heart for His fallen creation.

And if it helps you, I don't feel you have to try to grasp his ideas, or try to work through them AT ALL.  Everybody's got ideas, beliefs, opinions.  As intricate as they may be, if they aren't the thoughts of God, and to His Glory, there's no profit in them.  And they're hardly working for him, never mind all of mankind.
(Where were you, Job, when I laid the foundations of the earth...)

He says you have an answer for everything.  That's beautiful, and it's own proof, as you are giving him the answers contained in God's Word and Spirit.   Is it 'all' of God that there is?  No.  But it is altogether sufficient to bring about God's desired outcome during this 6000 year period He has given us to know Him by. And the outcome of knowing  and following Him and His Word is a personal relationship with Him and the Gift of eternal life.  Can any man's philosophy do that?  Of course not. (I know such things.  One of my majors was philosophy.  True. What a waste.  Four years of 'that's not it'....'that's not it'...not that either...God!  Where are You!?!?!)

We know there's so much more.  But to bring one to the Son, he/she must be willing to accept that there is a God apart from himself, now separated from us by a gulf, a veil, a gap that CAN BE bridged, and that in His Love for us, His Creation, God teaches us how to do that.

If you can, watch Sid Roth's program this week. http://sidroth.org/television/tv-archives/robert-henderson?src=banner_tv

Why wouldn't God give us what we need just when we need it, whether we knew we needed it or not?  Very Happy It may be a help in pulling down the 'blindness'.
And it removes the burden from us and brings it back to God to accomplish His Will.

So your new roomie has a choice.  The things of God are Spiritually discerned. We might know 'about them', and we can stand on the body/mind side of the bridge discussing it till we die, but we'll never experience it as Reality unless and until we start walking that bridge (the Cross) towards the Voice, the Truth that calls to us. THEN, as we walk, we are prepared (made ready) and Truth comes into view:  The treasure buried in the field, the Pearl of great price, the eternal Kingdom through Christ our Lord and Saviour.
He's a fortunate man, Delfi, that God brought him to Himself through you. thanks

EXACTLY! He called me over one day to look at a moth that was perfectly camouflaged by the big oak tree and here is where he got a bit miffed at me. I said " I wonder what the odds of that moth being born to look exactly like that oak tree are. Or how it even knows it is hidden? You'd think the evolving moth would die out before it's generations adapted to look like it does" whew! it irritated him. I even explained to him about the vanilla orchid when we were buying orchids one day. If the vanilla orchid doesn't convince you then you're really being obtuse. but I didn't say that. hehe

I said, "so the odds that an unknown speck could somehow ignite and expand into a universe that's perfectly mathematical and perfectly placed and loaded with data and programs and synchronicities that all have to work perfectly or fall apart, must be astronomical, right? I heard someone say it's like winning the lottery every day for 10,000 years or something like that and you accept those odds"?

And he hesitantly/defiantly/untruthfully said yes. But I don't think he was being truthful with himself  and he knows it. he's being stubborn, that's why I told him I can't see it like he does, I'd be lying to myself. I said "At Least you have to acknowledge that there is some sort of intelligent design here."
and he said, "there is a force underlying everything that keeps everything together even though on the smallest level our particles don't even touch. I said "yeah, we call that Jesus" But I couldn't remember the scripture and we were doing yard work and I didn't get a chance to look it up at that time.

I know this story is no different than a million other similar stories but I surely thank you for listening and your sweet support.  It's a bother having a roommate now, his bedroom is beside my best singing shower!!!! But  I am fond of him and he can stay, maybe he'll change his view.

He was grousing about his ex one day and I said, "you know how Jesus would want you to handle it?"
and he said "Crucify Her!"  cute cyclops My shocked look must have been hilarious! cute cyclops I said "no! she's the mother of your children, you should love her and be kind to her even if she's a blankityblank. It's good for your children to see that too". He knows nothing about Jesus, that's where I'm headed next.

Well off to work again. Thanks and love you Dovie!!!! I'll be sure and keep you updated on his progress and other silly statements.. lol!

This little snippet is my favorite part of the whole Bible. I'm going to try to get him to watch it.
