Doctors said he returned with severe brain damage, but it wasn't clear what caused it.Family Statement: - Quote :
- It is our sad duty to report that our son, Otto Warmbier, has completed his journey home. Surrounded by his loving family, Otto died today at 2:20pm.
It would be easy at a moment like this to focus on all that we lost - future time that won't be spent with a warm, engaging, brilliant young man whose curiosity and enthusiasm for life knew no bounds. But we choose to focus on the time we were given to be with this remarkable person. You can tell from the outpouring of emotion from the communities that he touched - Wyoming, Ohio and the University of Virginia to name just two - that the love for Otto went well beyond his immediate family. Otto went well beyond his immediate family. We would like to thank the wonderful professionals at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center who did everything they could for Otto. Unfortunately, the awful torturous mistreatment our son received at the hands of the North Koreans ensured that no other outcome was possible beyond the sad one we experienced today. When Otto returned to Cincinnati late on June 13th he was unable to speak, unable to see and unable to react to verbal commands. He looked very uncomfortable - almost anguished. Although we would never hear his voice again, within a day the countenance of his face changed - he was at peace. He was home and we believe he could sense that. We thank everyone around the world who has kept him and our family in their thoughts and prayers. We are at peace and at home too. Fred & Cindy Warmbier and Family |

| I figured it would be soon. I'm sure the only reason NK released him when they did was they didn't want a dead American on their hands. | |

I was thinking the same. Joe just posted it here first. Having said that, what fruitcake American in his right mind would ever go to N. Korea in the first place? Otto was culpable for HIS OWN actions. Can't tell me he wasn't aware of tiny penis Kimbo's "crack heads gone wild" regime from the get-go. I don't mean to sound cold but Otto had choices in life, just like all of us, and with all the years of facts on the table about N. Korea, he made the wrong one and the price he payed was his life. Hope others will learn from his mistake. Otto probably slept through the Hanoi Hilton part of the Korean war in his world history class. !! FOXTROT JULIET BRAVO !!

| I agree that Otto should have, and I assume did, know better. However, if NK had anything to do with him ending up in a coma and dying, they should be held accountable, somehow. This is one case of the punishment not fitting the "crime", if they did actually have something to do with it. Thing is, I don't know if there is anyway to prove whether NK did or didn't have anything to do with it, and how would you hold them accountable if they did? Like you, hopefully his story will help deter anybody else from trying something stupid over there. | |

You and 56 million Australians and 350 million Americans, Yaddy. I sure do hope that boy knew the Lord Yeshua, Yaddy. @rawblues - let's get this show on the road. Maybe we can meet a few nice warlords while we're over there and sing Kumbaya with them before they kill us. !! FOXTROT JULIET BRAVO !!
