NASA revealed a space weapon that could stop a lurking apocalyptic asteroid from hitting earth but, if the plan fails, Armageddon could be more real than we think. Even theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking says it’s only a matter of time until earth as we know it could be destroyed by an asteroid. “This is not science fiction. It is guaranteed by the laws of physics and probability,” Professor Hawking said during a speech at the Starmus science festival this year. He claimed if the human race did not start leaving earth for another planet, we risked being “annihilated”. “Spreading out into space will completely change the future of humanity. It may also determine whether we have any future at all,” Professor Hawking said. Science Daily reports Astrophysicist Professor Alan Fitzsimmons also warns if an asteroid hits earth it could destroy an entire major city. “Over 1800 potentially hazardous objects have been discovered so far, but there are many more waiting to be found,” he said.
