3 powerful earthquakes strike Micronesia (M6.5, M6.4) and New Zealand (M6.2) within 10 hours

Within the last ten hours, three powerful earthquakes hit Micronesia and New Zealand on December 8, 2017.


The first strong and shallow earthquake struck with a magnitude of 6.5the State of Yap, Federated States of Micronesia at 00:22 UTC on December 8, 2017 at a depth of 13.7 km (8.5 miles). Based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.


The second powerful quake, again a shallow earthquake, hit the Kermadec Islands, New Zealand at 02:09 UTC on December 8, 2017 at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). The M6.2 earthquake didn’t trigger any tsunami.
Finally, the third strong and shallow (12.6 miles) earthquake – and second of the day for the State of Yap, Micronesia – hit at 09:51 UTC on December 8, 2017. The magnitude of this last quake was M6.4. Based on all available data, there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.


Micronesia is actually being hit by a series of earthquakes since early morning, with a M.6.5, followed by a M4.7, a M5.5, a M6.4, a M4.9 and a M4.9.

12/08/2017 (FOX NEWS) Pope Francis has suggested he wants to make a change to The Lord’s Prayer, widely known among the faithful as the “Our Father.”

Specifically, the Catholic leader said in an interview Wednesday he would prefer to adjust the phrase “lead us not into temptation,” saying that it too strongly suggested that God leads people to sin.
“That is not a good translation,” the pope said, according to Reuters.
The phrase “do not let us fall into temptation,” which the Catholic Church in France has previously decided to use, would be a more appropriate alternative, Francis said.

Will N. Korea make SLBM provocation around Christmas?

There are signs indicating that North Korea is preparing to make further provocations with a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) after breaking silence last month with the launch of the Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile. North Korea has not fired any SLBM since August 2016. Some analysts say that Pyongyang probably has concentrated all efforts on developing the technology for maximizing its capabilities for striking the United States during the hiatus in SLBM provocation.
“It is true that we have detected a series of signs suggesting that the North is preparing to launch a new SLBM dubbed Pukkungsong-3,” a South Korean government source said Thursday. “Although we cannot say that a test launch is imminent, we are keeping a close watch by using South Korea-U.S. combined surveillance assets because of increased activities.”
Japanese media are also reporting on an imminent SLBM launch. The Tokyo Shimbun reported on Wednesday that the North had already manufactured five Pukkuksong-15 prototypes. When North Korea disclosed photographs showing its leader Kim Jong Un inspecting Chemical Material Institute of the Academy of Defence Sciences in August, it showed designs for a new SLBM labeled the Pukkuksong-3, hinting that it was focusing on improving its SLBM.
Some analysts raise the possibility that the North will use the U.S. Christmas holiday season as the timing for its new provocations. The SLBM is considered a “game changer” that would enable the North to strike back with a nuclear missile even after the United States strikes the North following Pyongyang’s ICBM attack. If North Korea makes a surprise launch around Christmas, it can significantly intensify Americans’ fear. When the North launched the Hwasong-15 last month, it chose 1 p.m., U.S. Eastern Standard Time, when U.S. citizens are busy doing their daily activities to maximize the shock.
