But prosecutor Aaron Watkins called Assange's court bid "absurd".

Sweden dropped its investigation last year, but British police are still seeking to arrest Assange for failing to surrender to a court after violating bail terms during his unsuccessful battle against extradition.

Few people have heard of Michael Horowitz, but that’s about to change. Horowitz, the Department of Justice (DOJ) inspector general, is an increasingly critical player in the controversy surrounding the FBI, President Trump and the Russia investigation. With little fanfare, he has been conducting a sprawling probe of the FBI’s handling of the 2016 investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server. His full report, which could set off shockwaves, is expected by the early spring. A political appointee in both the Bush and Obama administrations, Horowitz’s yearlong investigation already reportedly contributed to the early resignation of Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe. And his work has been felt in other ways.
Horowitz also uncovered a series of text messages between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page that led special counsel Robert Mueller to remove Strzok from his team. Those texts have fueled accusations among GOP lawmakers that Mueller’s probe is tainted by partisanship.
Those who know Horowitz portray him as an independent voice. “He is really one of the smartest and fairest people I have ever had the pleasure to work with,” said Bill Hamel, who served as assistant inspector general for investigations at the Department of Education. “He’s a straight shooter and a fair guy. He’s an honest broker.” But Horowitz’s reputation will be put to the test when he releases the findings of the Clinton investigation. No matter what he concludes, it’s likely to create a political firestorm, coming at a time when both Republicans and the White House are charging that political bias is rampant at the Justice Department and at the FBI. Horowitz attracted public attention early in his career as an assistant U.S. attorney in New York for prosecuting corrupt police officers in the infamous “Dirty 30” case in the mid-1990s. He later moved to the Justice Department’s criminal division in Washington, where he served as chief of staff for a period spanning the Clinton and Bush administrations. Bush later appointed Horowitz to a six-year term as a commissioner of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, an agency within the judicial branch that writes sentencing guidelines for federal courts. He was then selected by President Obama to serve as the Justice Department’s top watchdog in 2011. His job is demanding. Horowitz oversees a department of nearly 500 employees who are responsible for investigating waste, fraud, abuse and misconduct within the Justice Department. “You’re there to help the agency succeed in doing its job,” said Hamel, who has known Horowitz since his days working in New York. “They have to be independent to do that job. They can’t be swayed by political issues.” He is best remembered in his current role for coming down hard on regional officials at Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for the infamous “Fast and Furious” operation in which officials allowed the illegal sale of firearms in a botched effort to track Mexican drug cartels. Just six months into the job, Horowitz issued a report eviscerating law enforcement officials in Arizona for a “significant lack of oversight” and disregard for “the safety of individuals in the United States and Mexico.” While the investigation absolved Attorney General Eric Holder of blame, Horowitz recommended that the Justice Department consider potential disciplinary action for 14 officials involved. “It was just a remarkably intense first six months on the job. I know I wouldn’t have chosen to walk into the job that way. Looking back on it, it was sort of trial by fire,” Horowitz told The Washington Post in 2014. “You sink or you swim pretty quickly, and fortunately I didn’t sink. People can use their own judgment about how well I swam.” Horowitz also clashed with the Obama administration over Justice and the FBI bucking requests for documents from the inspector general’s office. Horowitz’s work has earned him respect among his peers. He has been twice elected to lead the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, the independent panel of inspectors general across the federal government. “He is a man of the utmost integrity who is willing to call the shots as he sees them,” said Stanley Twardy, a Stamford, Conn.-based lawyer who has known Horowitz professionally since his days as a U.S. attorney. Horowitz formally announced last January that he would investigate allegations of wrongdoing by Justice Department and FBI officials leading up the 2016 election, in response to demands from both Democrats and Republicans. It’s possible that both parties will get political ammunition from Horowitz’s report. The inspector general is examining whether then-FBI Director James Comey broke FBI procedure with his public disclosures about the Clinton case, including the letter that he sent to Congress a few weeks before the election. Before Trump fired Comey, Democrats were outspoken in their criticism of those decisions, saying they violated procedure and cost Clinton the election. But Horowitz is also looking into allegations that McCabe should have been recused from the investigation. Republicans, including Trump, have seized on reports that McCabe’s wife accepted campaign contributions from Clinton ally and former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe when she ran for state office in Virginia, calling it a clear conflict of interest. Finally, Horowitz is also looking into unauthorized disclosures of information. Lawmakers have pressed Horowitz to expand the scope of the probe to include Comey’s firing or Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s recusal from the separate investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Horowitz has not committed to looking into Comey’s firing, signaling that doing so could present a conflict with Mueller’s investigation. Horowitz’s probe has become all the more relevant in light of McCabe’s decision to step down last week. According to The New York Times, Christopher Wray, whom Trump installed as FBI director last year after Comey’s ouster, had raised concerns about details of the forthcoming inspector general report that led him to propose that McCabe be demoted. The Washington Post subsequently reported that Horowitz is examining why McCabe seemingly did not move forward for several weeks on a request to examine new emails in the Clinton investigation that were found on former congressman Anthony Weiner’s (D-N.Y.) computer. “There are a lot of legitimate questions that I hope would be answered by this inspector and that probably aren’t going to paint the DOJ or the FBI in a particularly good light,” said Ron Hosko, a former official in the FBI’s criminal investigative division. The findings could further play into GOP charges of political bias at the FBI, which critics view as part of a broader effort to inhibit Mueller’s investigation. The text exchanges between Strzok and Page came to public light when the Justice Department delivered them to GOP-led panels in Congress in December and also reportedly allowed journalists to view them. “These text messages prove what we all suspected: high-ranking FBI officials involved in the Clinton investigation were personally invested in the outcome of the election and clearly let their strong political opinions cloud their professional judgment,” House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) told Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein at a hearing in December. The Justice Department came under fire from Republicans in January when lawmakers discovered a five-month gap in the text messages; Horowitz has subsequently said he recovered the missing exchanges and would provide copies to the department, which could decide to release them to Capitol Hill. Horowitz told lawmakers last November that his investigators had reviewed roughly 1.25 million records and conducted dozens of interviews in connection with the ongoing investigation. At the time, he said he expected the report to be issued by March or April. Otherwise, the inspector general has remained tight-lipped on the status of the investigation, including the potential widening of its scope. His statement last January contained an important caveat. “If circumstances warrant,” it said, “the [inspector general] will consider including other issues that may arise during the course of the review.” [/size]

In testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, he has maintained that Russia “brazenly interfered” in the 2016 elections, offering no evidence to support his allegations. When President Trump tweets liberals melt down, they scream "bully" when he goes after someone or names wrongdoing by someone, they mock him relentlessly when he makes a claim that the media either knows nothing about or has actively tried to hide the information from the public, such as when President Trump informed the country his communications were "wire-tapped" by the Obama administration, which the world finally found out was one hundred percent true, after they criticized him for months over his claim.
The reason we watch the president's Twitter feed is that we have noted, time and time again, to note the names he names, the claims he makes and understand that he is informing the public of what is coming at a later date.
One such example was President Trump's March 2017 tweets about Uranium One which stated "Why isn't the House Intelligence Committee looking into the Bill & Hillary deal that allowed big Uranium to go to Russia, Russian speech....", then he continued on to say "...money to Bill, the Hillary Russian "reset," praise of Russia by Hillary, or Podesta Russian Company. Trump Russia story is a hoax. #MAGA!"
President Trump was informing people what was coming at a later date and sure enough, in October 2017, The Hill's John Solomon busted open a story regarding Uranium One, showing that the Obama administration while Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State knew of an ongoing bribery investigation implicating Russian nuclear officials, which they kept from the public and from Congress, as they approve the Uranium One deal. That report also uncovered significant amounts of money was given to the Clinton Foundation by Russian entities.
On February 5, 2018, President Trump offered another tidbit of information, which taken in conjunction with newly revealed information by investigative journalist Sara Carter, explains why she says high level Obama administration intelligence members are "terrified."
It is noteworthy that for months, from the information about Obama administration officials "unmasking" Americans, specifically Trump campaign team members, for political purposes, all the way until the most recent FISA abuse memo, Carter has been in front of it all, with her sources offering her enough to be able to inform the public, without revealing classified information, of what was coming and to date, her predictions by citing her high level sources, have been spot on.
Trump tweeted on February 5, 2018: "Little Adam Schiff, who is desperate to run for higher office, is one of the biggest liars and leakers in Washington, right up there with Comey, Warner, Brennan and Clapper! Adam leaves closed committee hearings to illegally leak confidential information. Must be stopped!"
As you can hear by Carter above, the OIG report has former Obama officials terrified, but she also highlights, just as the president did, that there will be details about leaks, in some cases including classified information leaked to the press, contained with the OIG report, which also matches the OIG's mandate in the press release announcing his investigation which began in January 2017.
Via that press release: "Department of Justice Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today that, in response to requests from numerous Chairmen and Ranking Members of Congressional oversight committees, various organizations, and members of the public, the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) will initiate a review of allegations regarding certain actions by the Department of Justice (Department) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in advance of the 2016 election. Cognizant of the scope of the OIG’s jurisdiction under Section 8E of the Inspector General Act, the review will examine the following issues: "

• Allegations that Department or FBI policies or procedures were not followed in connection with, or in actions leading up to or related to, the FBI Director’s public announcement on July 5, 2016, and the Director’s letters to Congress on October 28 and November 6, 2016, and that certain underlying investigative decisions were based on improper considerations;

The president specifically highlighted leaks in his tweet, but he also named two very high level former Obama officials, namely, former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from March 2013 to January 2017, John Brennan, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, who resigned in November 2016.
A look back through older news, we see that Brennan was accused of leaking information back in December 2016, after Donald Trump had won the presidential election, in the very midst of the ongoing communications between high level FBI employees discussing an "insurance policy" against Donald Trump should he become the president, which was later revealed to be the whole "Russia collusion" narrative we have heard ad nuaseam for the last year.
Interestingly, the information Brennan was accused of leaking to the press, was in relation to "Russian hacking" of the DNC servers, in what Representaive Peter King called "a hit job" against the then president-elect Donald Trump.
At the time King told ABC's This Week show "“That's what infuriates me about this, Martha, is that we have John Brennan, supposedly John Brennan, leaking to The Washington Post, to a biased newspaper like The New York Times, findings and conclusion that is he's not telling the intelligence committee."

There is growing evidence the agency he oversaw has become one of the largest consumers of unmasked intelligence about Americans even though its charter prohibits it from spying on U.S. citizens.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is also seeking communications regarding Brennan, along with 39 others, from a variety of entities, including The Democratic National Committee (DNC), Hillary for America (HFA), Former DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Former DNC Chair Donna Brazile, HFA Chair John Podesta, and HFA Chief Strategist Joel Benenson.
As to James Clapper, who President Trump also mentions in his tweet, back in May 2017, both he and former deputy AG Sally Yates were questioned by Senator Chuck Grassley about "unmasking Trump communications," and sharing it will others.

In January 2017, before President Trump was inaugurated, he accused the Intelligence Community of leaking the Kremlin sourced, Steele dossier that was funded in part by the DNC and the Hillary Clinton campaign, and it was Clapper quoted by multiple sources in denying that claim. This was the same Steele dossier that the recent FISA abuse memo highlighted as being unverified, yet used by the intelligence community to obtain a FISA warrant to surveil Trump campaign members.
Perhaps the most damning thing against Clapper was his assertion before it was verified that the Trump campaign did in fact have their communications surveilled, and that the Steele dossier was used to obtain a FISA warrant, was Clapper's outright denial of knowledge about any FISA warrant to spy on the Trump campaign.
Via The Hill in March 2017, before the public learned that Trump and his campaign was surveilled and about the FISA warrant against Carter Page, that allowed Obama intelligence officials to collect "incidental" communications of other Americans that communicated with Carter Page, specifically, other Trump campaign members, that were then "unmasked."

With the information now available, we now know James Clapper was lying back in that March 2017 interview. Not only was the Trump campaign survielled, but the FISA warrant was granted, and extended multiple times using the same Steele dossier that Clapper denied leaking knowledge of to the press.
MORE MEMOS EXPECTED AS EVERYONE WAITS FOR OIG REPORT
The DOJ's Office of Inspector General has already released 1.2 million documents to the House Intelligence Committee, where the most recent FISA abuse memo was released from, and reports indicate that memo, which Democrats, the DOJ and FBI, attempted to prevent the public from seeing, is just the beginning, as there are approximately five more memos, dealing with different agencies, expected to come out of that committee.

Many believe, and the recent revelations seem to offer the theory some credence, that high level members of multiple intelligence agencies manufactured a hoax regarding "Russia collusion with the Trump campaign," then proceeded to use unverified documents to obtain FISA warrants on Trump campaign member(s), then "unmask" other names that communicated with the person listed in the warrant, then Barack Obama, who was the president at that time, initiated new rules to allow those same agencies to share raw data (meaning American names were not masked) with each other, so that it would take hundreds of investigative hours to unravel exactly who leaked what and when and to who.

Between the Senate Judiciary Committee, the House Intelligence Committee, millions of documents, and a year-long OIG oversight investigation, we are finally starting to see some top members of the FBI, along with other top members of the DOJ, along with the former Director of the CIA, and the DNI, be exposed publicly, as not only leakers, but as liars whose lies were captured and preserved on video, all engaged in a huge conspiracy to overthrow the President of the United States, Donald J. President Trump: 'We Caught Them' - Senate Memo Drops The Biggest Bombshells While All Eyes Were On The House Memo

For the past two weeks all eyes have been on the House Intelligence Committee's FISA abuse memo, first when they committee voted to allow all House members to see it, despite all Democrats on the committee voting against the measure, then the #ReleaseTheMemo campaign which resulted in another vote to allow all Americans to see it, until finally it was released.
Under the radar, amidst the chaos surrounding the House memo, the Senate Judiciary Committee quietly battled with the Justice Department to get their criminal referral details against Christopher Steele released to the public. The final eight-page declassified document is heavily redacted with the majority of whole pages blacked out in some cases, but what can be seen, shows far more damning information than what was contained in the House memo.
While the House memo did show a number of disturbing fact patterns, specifically that the unverified, Kremlin sourced Steele dossier, which was funded by the DNC and the Hillary Clinton campaign, was used to obtain a FISA warrant to surveil the Trump campaign, telling the court there was a political bias, but not informing the court who funded the dossier, what the Senate document shows, even with the redactions, is there was a second Steele dossier created, where foreign sources fed information to a Hillary and Bill Clinton associate, who then fed that information to Obama State Department official, who then handed it over to Christopher Steele.
Furthermore, one of the things not redacted in the criminal referral memo is that in late September 2016, Steele claims that at the behest of Fusion GPS, who was paid by the Clinton campaign and the DNC, Steele was shopping this information obtained by Clinton allies, from foreign sub-sources, given to Steele by Obama State Department officials, to the New York Times, Washington Post, Yahoo News, The New Yorker and CNN.
Via Page 4-5 of the Senate Judiciary Committee's declassified criminal referral against Steele, states the following:

(U) In Steele's sworn court filings in litigation in London, he admitted that he "gave off the record briefings to a small number of journalists about the pre-election memoranda [i.e., the dossier] in late summer/autumn 2016." In another sworn filing in that case, Mr. Steele further stated that journalists from "the New York Times, the Washington Post, Yahoo News, the New Yorker, and CNN" were "briefed at the end of September 2016 by [Steele] and Fusion at Fusion's instruction." The filing further states that Mr. Steele subsequently participated in further meetings at Fusion's instruction with Fusion and the New York Times, the Washington Post, and Yahoo News, which took place mid-October 2016. According to these court filings "[t]he briefings involved the disclosure of limited intelligence regarding indications of Russian interference in the U.S. election process and the possible coordination of members of Trump's campaign team and Russian government officials." In his interview with the Committee, Glenn Simpson of Fusion GPS confirmed this account by Mr. Steele and his company as filed in British court."
It is not surprising to those of us that have been paying attention that it was Clinton political activists that created the whole Russia collusion narrative, as we can see articles about Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta accusing the Trump campaign of working in cohoots with Russia from October 2016, just as the Clinton allies were passing information to the Obama State Department official, who was then passing it on to Steele for his dossier, which the FBI and DOJ officials then used to obtain their FISA warrants against Carter Page.

Remember from the House intelligence Committee memo, (embedded at the bottom of an ANP article here), on Page 5, it stated that in September 2016, "Steele admitted to Ohr his feelings against then-candidate Trump when Steele said he 'was desperate that Donald Trump not get elected and was passionate about him not being president.' This clear evidence of Steele's bias was recorded by Ohr at the time and subsequently in the official FBI files-but not reflected in any of the Page FISA applications."

In other words, while liberals and the media are making a big deal about the fact that the FISA application did mention "opposition" funding for the Steele dossier, they did not mention it was the Clinton campaign and the DNC specifically that funded it, nor did they tell the FISA judge that the man that created the dossier had an extreme bias against Donald Trump, which they knew and had noted in their files, nor that it was Clinton political activists that passed information from foreign sub-sources to an Obama State Department, which gave it to Steele.
In Cincinnati, President Trump addressed the new information from the memos, saying "Oh, but did we catch them in the act or what? You know what I’m talking about. Oh, did we catch them in the act? They are very embarrassed.They never thought they’d get caught. We caught them. We caught them. It’s so much fun. We’re like the great sleuth."

BOTTOM LINE
In the words of Mark Levin "Hillary Clinton paid for a warrant. That's the easiest way we can put it. Hillary Clinton colluded with the Russians. But it appears the FBI at the senior-most levels colluded with the Russians too. Whether it was witting or unwitting it doesn't matter. That's a fact." He continued on to say "The American people have been subjected to a massive propaganda and misinformation campaign by the Clinton campaign, by the Obama administration."
This writer agrees, to a point. His benefit of the doubt to the senior-most level members of the FBI, in my opinion, is much too generous, since the information contained within the House memo, and the recently released, redacted Senate Judiciary Committee's criminal referral against Christopher Steele, was available to the FBI and other U.S. intelligence agencies, before it was even handed over to the Senate or House oversight committees.
I contend they knew the Russia collusion narrative was a hoax, and given the clear bias shown in the texts between FBI agent Peter Strzok, who played key roles in both the Hillary Clinton private server/email investigation and the initiation of the Russia probe, and his lover, FBI lawyer Lisa Page, they simply didn't care if they were "colluding" with Russia and the Clinton campaign to manufacture a Russian collusion propaganda campaign. I further contend that they, and other senior members of the FBI and DOJ under Obama, were willing to do anything, commit any crime, doctor any evidence, and lie to the FISA court to overturn the 2016 presidential election and destroy President Trump.
The way the House Intelligence Committee timed their memo release, in a manner where it sucked up all the oxygen in the room, or to more accurately phrase it, forced Democratic politicians to push out all their hot air, where it then dominated all the headlines, leaving this Senate memo to come out without fanfare, no push back and no time or room to pre-emptively spin the information, was the ultimate bait and switch.
