The Pentagon announced on Friday a new naval command to boost the US presence in the Atlantic, as the US Navy said it was bringing back its disbanded 2nd fleet. (This was NOT expected . . .  at all.   This is a HUGE change . . . . a major surprise.   Something BIG is up.)
The 2nd fleet will be tasked with covering the US East Coast and the north of the Atlantic Ocean, presumably as a response to Russia's increased activity in the region.

"Our National Defense Strategy makes clear that we're back in an era of great power competition as the security environment continues to grow more challenging and complex," Chief of US Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson said on Friday.
"That's why today, we're standing up Second Fleet to address these changes," he added.
Washington disbanded the 2nd fleet, which at the time numbered over 100 ships, in 2011. Many of its assets and personnel were assigned to other sections of the US Navy. The move was made ahead of the Crimea crisis as ex-President Barack Obama was urging a "pivot to Asia" to focus on China's growing power in the region.

MODERN US NAVY FLEETS

US Navy fleets are numbered odd in the Pacific or West, and even in the Atlantic or East:

  • United States Fleet Forces (HQ Norfolk, Virginia) - Homeland Defense and North Atlantic Ocean. Formerly United States Second Fleet.
  • United States Third Fleet (HQ San Diego, California) – East Pacific
  • United States Fourth Fleet (HQ Mayport, Florida) – South Atlantic
  • United States Fifth Fleet (HQ Manama, Bahrain) – Middle East
  • United States Sixth Fleet (HQ Naples, Italy) – Europe
  • United States Seventh Fleet (HQ Yokosuka, Japan) – West Pacific
  • United States Tenth Fleet (HQ Fort Meade, Maryland) – Reactivated as Fleet Cyber Command. Formerly anti submarine warfare coordinating organization.

Editor's Comment: This is waaaaaaay bad.   Your don't just one day decide to take 100 ships from elsewhere in the world to re-establish an entire Fleet and put them all off the east coast for no reason.  There wasn't even any TALK of this;  it came out of nowhere!  Something is VERY, VERY wrong.  This is what we do when we fully expect to get into a war and suffer attacks along our eastern seaboard.  Such attacks took place in World War 2 when German Submarines torpedoed ships off the coasts of New Jersey and Connecticut.  My grandparents remembered weekends at the Jersey Shore (Wildwood) seeing explosions on the horizon out at sea as the cargo ships got hit.  They used to tell those stories to my brother and me when we were kids. Scary stuff.
Folks who reside along the US East Coast are encouraged (by me) to make certain you have PREPS should war kick off.  Here is a list of suggested items from sellers on AMAZON.  I am ***NOT*** a seller and do ***NOT*** earn money off the AMAZON sales.
It seems to me that someone clearly intends (or already knows) a very large war is coming.  YOU DON'T JUST MOVE 100 SHIPS FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO OFF THE EAST COAST FOR NOTHING.
