Most Linux systems have left the 32 bit machines behind. I was fortunate to find a brand new desk tower with 64 bit , 5g memory and 4 processors on ebay for $212.00.
Windows 7 even being careful only lasted a week.
Folks you can download a live version of the same system that I run and try it.
Right off the bat it will be more secure in that it is on a cd or dvd.

I chose this one because of system file lay out, this helps keep scripts from targeting any standard named style that other systems use.
