Sam Adams released a specialty "Too Old, Too Slow, Still Here" beer in honor of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady ahead of the 2019 Super Bowl matchup on Feb. 3. (Samuel Adams )By Kristin LaFratta | kristin.lafratta@masslive.comTo the delight of New England Patriots fans everywhere and to the chagrin of their many critics this football season, Boston-based brewer Samuel Adams has released a limited-edition beer titled “Too Old, Too Slow, Still Here."
The specialty beer, a double New England IPA with a 7.8-percent alcohol-by-volume measurement, pays tribute to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, who will compete in his ninth Super Bowl matchup in Atlanta this Sunday.
“This New England style Double IPA is fermented with kveik, a heirloom farmhouse yeast that displays a variety of flavors and aromas like candied peach and pineapple that work together for a one-of-a-kind brew – just like our team has worked together to defeat the odds and shatter expectations all season long,” Sam Adams announced in a statement.
The artwork on the beer cans show a Patriots player with a goat head, a nod to Brady’s “GOAT” acronymous nickname, otherwise known as “Greatest of All Time.” The name of the beer playfully acknowledges the many sports analysts and opposing fans who said 41-year-old Brady was becoming too old and too slow to remain a top competitor.

Batches of beer are fairly limited in the Boston area. On Thursday night, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Sam Adams brewery in Jamaica Plain will sell one crowler, or a 32-ounce aluminum can, of the specialty beer per person for the first 199 people that arrive. The beer-makers say the 199 figure reflects Brady’s pick selection in the NFL draft in 2000.
The beer will also be sold on draft Thursday night at the brewery, alongside free food from Buffalo Wild Wings, live music and other free merchandise like posters and stickers.
“We’re behind New England Patriots 100 percent as they head to the big game,” Sam Adams founder and brewer Jim Koch said in a statement.
“The best way we could think to honor the team was to brew a beer for fans that can’t make it to Atlanta and a New England style Double IPA with as much spirit as the players felt like the perfect beer. We haven’t doubted them all season and can’t wait to watch them on Sunday with a beer in hand that honors their hard work,” Koch added.
