I've been watching that Orville dam thing for a few weeks now. Seems that the newly rebuilt spillway might be having some troubles. They tested earlier this month at 30,000 CFS flow rate and troubles with the concrete 'may' be leaking, lifting, causing cavitation leading to unintended vibrations. I'm watching this closely.

Ignore the above. Hodges doesn't know what he's talking about here. The dam HAS NOT over-topped! Water level is still well below that level. Aside from that however seems that something is kinda fricky with the new spillway.

Someone in the area says "Something really evil is in the works. The DWP know what's coming and it is normal common sense to get the water levels as low as they can go to prepare for this entirely foreseeable event. Instead the dam is nearly full. "

The overflow level is 901 feet.

On May 10th the level was at 888.410 and on May 11th it was at 889.560. Please note that the guy narrating the video was a bit confused about how high the percentage above normal the snow pack is, so I did some research. In early Feb the California Department of Water & Power, DWP, stated that there was 106.5 inches of snow depth. But the important figure is how much water that works out to when it all finally melts. The Snow Water Equivalent, SWE, (which is what really matters) comes out to a whopping 51 inches.

I really do hope that nothing happens at Oroville, however second storm is moving in fast and things aren't really looking all that rosy. Calif. Dept of water resources (DWR)  report is - to say it lightly - not real encouraging. See the Dave Hodges video from today (18 May) for more on that report. I don't mean to 'fear monger' however I do want folks to be informed so please take it that-a-way.

Calif. DWR has a work-around plan - "We're not going to use the spillway" - @3min to 3min30sec mark in video. That just doesn't sit right with me.
