An extremely large Magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck in the Pacific Ocean near Fiji at 2:29 eastern U.S. Time this morning.  Thankfully, the massive quake was very deep in the earth, at about 487 km depth, which absorbed most of the violent shaking.
