A solar storm is now headed our way. It could shut down Internet and TV for several days. Mr. Pool wrote on October 26: “As lights go out, and the world falls asleep, you'll gaze towards the night sky. At a glance you'll see a new beginning, the Sun shining through."

This was put up last nite, Oct. 27. He's right that 'sky event' is coming. What that is, we don't really know.

How fitting that it's due to hit on Halloween. I remember the one in 2003. The online credit card possessing went down back then. I remember this cause I couldn't use my gas card to buy gasoline for a while because of it. Had to resort to using that nasty stuff called cash. TV & radio signals were all hashed up too.

The USAF is reporting Type II radio emissions which likely come from the shock front of a CME moving ~600 km/s through the sun's atmosphere. We await fresh data from SOHO coronagraphs to confirm a possible Earth-directed component. Stay tuned.

AFTERGLOW OF A CME: A CME hit Earth's magnetic field on Oct. 31st. Its weak impact did not spark the strong geomagnetic storm forecasters expected. However, the afterglow was divine. Minoru Yoneto, New Zealand, took this picture as Earth was passing through the CME's wake:
Among auroras, reds are the most delicate. They come from atomic oxygen near the top of Earth's atmosphere. Oxygen atoms excited by solar wind spit out red photons very slowly. The radiative lifetime of the transition is 110 seconds--an eternity at the quantum scale.
The atoms must remain undisturbed that long to produce their eerie red light. Quiet, patience, and dark skies are required to catch them. Apparently, a weak Halloween CME helps, too.

What a difference five days makes. Less than a week ago the sunspot count was 0 and then suddenly an influx of large sunspots appeared. The solar flux index for December 16th is 118, a new high for solar cycle 25! -------------------

He did mention 'scientists' are talking about 2 planets or stars in the same vicinity -in close 'collision' range. Well, that's a buzz phrase. 'when two worlds collide' but, I don't think this is it
