So what's the pattern? Perhaps related to spiritual gifts gone wrong...
What would it be like to have wings but not be able to fly?
The NYT article was taken from the Lancet...
"Identification of risk loci with shared effects on five major psychiatric disorders: a genome-wide analysis" (2-28-2013)

The Lancet article points to the study's assertion that 5 disorders have genetic overlap: autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, and schizophrenia.
Their point is that variations in the same gene can have different effects:

- In particular, variation in calcium-channel activity genes seems to have pleiotropic effects on psychopathology.
No surprise when factions behind the media push that some traits be exploited where:
1 manic superheros "save" the world
2 some hear voices or sense patterns others don't
3 physical traits are rewarded sexually and socially
4 self determination allows self destruction
5 fear, doubt, and worry become policy
6 better care is available for a price
7 experience is kept mute for experiment
We see this in pop promotion of mutant themes in entertainment....
