AP, Sept. 22, 2013: The operator of an Ohio nuclear plant along Lake Erie has found several more cracks in the concrete building housing the nuclear reactor and says some cracks found earlier have grown a bit. [...] Several hairline cracks were found in the structure’s 2 1/2-foot-thick concrete two years ago. FirstEnergy determined they were caused by wind-blown moisture seeping into the concrete and freezing during a blizzard, and that the structural integrity wasn’t affected. [...]

Toledo Blade, Sept. 21, 2013: [...] Despite the determination that three of the cracks had spread, Ray Lieb, FirstEnergy’s site vice president for Davis-Besse, said the building is still safe. [...] FENOC is in the midst of seeking a 20-year renewal of Davis-Besse’s operating license, which expires in 2017. Michael Keegan, a spokesman for one of four anti-nuclear groups opposing the renewal, said the NRC’s continued acceptance of FirstEnergy’s studies of the Shield Building should inspire “little confidence” in the public concerning its structural integrity. “The structure is compromised,” he said Friday. “Once again, FENOC puts profit above safety.”

Plain Dealer, Sept. 20, 2013: The company today said inspections using a new, high-definition camera inserted into holes drilled into the 2.5-foot thick concrete building revealed cracks not seen before – and that cracks found in previous inspections had grown [...] The company first discovered cracks in the building in 2011 [...] thousands of cracks just under the surface [...] “The NRC has been closely following this issue and independently reviewing” the situation, the agency said in a statement. “Based on the current information, this issue does not compromise the safety of the plant or the public.” The agency also sent its own structural inspector to Davis-Besse, said spokeswoman Viktoria Mitlyng in an email.

WKSU News, Sept, 20, 2013: More cracks discovered in Davis-Besse nuclear reactor shield [...] the building is still able to keep the elements out and radiation in. About half of the shield’s examination ports have been inspected, and the NRC will check the rest in the next several weeks.

Couple a cans and she'll be good as new.........high five

Seriously though, if we're all still here when the SHTF and these plants all start to go it'll look like something out of Mad Max, literally. Not meaning to encourage any kind of fear but it'll get ugly early.
Background radiation in US cities are up by as much as 1000% since Fuku. The 'background' is now bringing its own chopsticks to dinner.
