Yes, you read it right. In 2011 J2P2 was exhumed for beatification and in 2012 a gilded book containing a vial of his blood was stolen from a priest on a train just outside of Rome. The blood was eventually recovered, reports say.
But now, since Benedict's resignation, they have set up a 24 hr/day webcam on his tomb. Every day cardinals gather from 7-9 to conduct some type of ritual/ ceremony there. This has not been done with any other prior pope.
Why is a priest on a train with a vial of his blood? Why would someone steal it? Why is there now a webcam in his tomb? What kind of ritual or ceremony are they performing there? Lots of questions and dark speculation but no answers - yet. We really must be living in the Twilight Zone now.

Vial of Pope John Paul II’s blood stolen from Catholic priest By editor on August 30, 2012 2:42 am in Oddly Enough / 1 comment
The priest, Augusto Baldini, was on a train heading north out of Rome when his backpack, which contained the reliquary, was swiped by three thieves.
The relic consisted of an open book with gilded pages in which was embedded a tiny glass vial containing the blood, which was taken from John Paul following the attempt on his life in St Peter’s Square by a Turkish gunman in 1981.
“One of the thieves distracted me, telling me I was on the wrong train,” Father Baldini said. “I turned round to look, and it was then that his accomplices stole my backpack.” He was travelling to a sanctuary near the port of Civitavecchia, where the relic was supposed to go on display. [more]

Strange quasi religious practices continue in this digital age—a vial of a deceased Pope’s blood hidden in a book of sorts. For what purpose?
