My fourth grader is learning about electromagnetism. Not sure why that area (monorails etc) never took off? But it sure has kept us dependent on fossil fuels.

Here's a fun one for you to try out on your fourth grader. You need two speakers, bigger the better, salvaged from just about anything. Bare speakers, no enclosures. Connect 'em together with a few feet of wire. Old lamp cord will do. When you push the cone in on one speaker [the generator] the other speaker [the motor] will move too. You can even talk into one speaker and be heard in the other one. Get a longer wire for that cause you'll be shouting, but it does work.
My whole career was electronics and I love seeing kids getting interested and experimenting.

Thanks Researcher. Sadly we have given away the old gigantic speakers of our youth. But did you see that TED talk of that young boy from Africa??? He noticed that the lions did not attack his heard of cows at night when people were out with flashlights. So he figured out how to rig up some battteries and LED lights on poles to keep his cows safe at night. Pretty ingenious for a kid of 11 or 12 (I think that's what age he was) with no formal education.

I didn't see that TED video, Proskuneo. But I found it. Maybe others would enjoy seeing it as well. Thanks.

Great kid, great story! Good for him, and the lions and the cattle!
