Savage
by Hal Lindsey

After a recent speech in Australia, American advice columnist Dan Savage, was asked by an audience member, “Which so-called ‘dangerous idea’ do you think would have the greatest potential to change the world for the better if it were implemented?”

Savage replied, “Population control. There’s too many [expletive] people on the planet!”

His audience applauded widely. He went on to be more specific. While claiming to be pro-choice, he admitted that at times he’s “anti-choice.” By that, he did not mean that he waffles in his support of abortion. Just the opposite. He meant that he’s sometimes completely pro-death. He said, “I think abortion should be mandatory for about 30 years. That’s a ‘dangerous idea.’”

Mark Oppenheimer, writing for New York Times Magazine, called Savage, “America’s leading sex-advice columnist.” In addition to his newspaper column, Mr. Savage hosts his own on sex-advice show on MTV. He’s a regular on public radio, and on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher.

And he’s regularly on the college speaking circuit where he finds wildly enthusiastic audiences. For instance, in October the University of Oregon used taxpayers’ money to give Savage $24,000 for a single speech. As usual, he talked about all manner of sexual perversions, some of which are not only psychologically hazardous, but physically as well. The marketing manager for the University HealthCenter explained why the state of Oregon should pay for this. “The return a university gets from sponsoring programs where students are exposed to nationally prominent resource people is in the form of sparking thought and considering new perspectives.”

Too bad Charles Manson’s not available. He’s nationally prominent, too. And he could give them new perspectives without charging so much.

Dan Savage is popular among liberals for his “It Gets Better Project.” Ostensibly, it is a suicide prevention program. It basically tells young homosexuals that everything will turn out okay — “it gets better.” The program has been criticized by some in the “gay community” as being applicable mostly to affluent young whites.

Despite his popularity, I don’t worry that Savage’s forced abortion idea will ever be enacted into law. I’m convinced Jesus will return before things go that far. But it tells us a lot about who has the ear of the young in this generation, and about the perilous times in which we live.

A few years ago, the anti-God crowd called itself “humanist.” That was a “dangerous idea” because it was often coupled with the word “secular,” by which they meant leaving God out of everything. But on “Dictionary.com,” the definition of “humanist” begins, “A person having a strong interest in or concern for human welfare, values, and dignity.”

By that definition, Dan Savage is no humanist. He would use force to violate the bodies of all the pregnant women in the world, snuff out their babies’ lives, ripping those children from their mother’s wombs. His words reek of abhorrence for human beings. You won’t find a comment more thoroughly drenched in hatred for humanity. “Abortion should be mandatory for about 30 years.”

Alien as his ideas may sound, similar things have been tried before — although in smaller ways. In Exodus 1:22, Pharaoh ordered the murder of every male child born to the Hebrew slaves. Matthew 2:16tells about Herod’s attempt to destroy the infant Jesus. He ordered the murder of “all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under.” The population ofBethlehem was so small that Herod probably killed fewer than 20 children.

These have come to be known among the great atrocities of history, but clearly Savage’s proposal is far worse — on another scale altogether. He’s not just calling for the deaths of boys, but all children. It’s not genocide because those of us fortunate enough to have already been born, would get to keep our lives, at least for a while. Also, he’s not calling for the elimination of a single race. Instead, he’s calling for the elimination of all races for an entire generation — an equal opportunity destroyer.

Not only would he leave future mothers bereft, he would destroy society as we know it. Economic systems would collapse, followed by the rule of law. Chaos would ensue. Civilization would so thoroughly implode that humans would be left to scavenge the remains of previous times in a mostly futile attempt to survive. Unhinged as it is, ours would be looked back on as humanity’s golden age. Savage would destroy peace, prosperity, and eventually science and most learning — all with one “dangerous idea.”

Romans 1:28 says, “Just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind.” The King James calls it “a reprobate mind.” You may have heard me previously define a reprobate mind as “a mind so perverted it cannot think in its own best interest.” Savage’s population control idea may be the clearest example of mental depravity coming from a mainstream source that I have ever seen. The Iranians shout, “Death to America!” That’s pretty bad, but he’s shouting, “Death to everyone!” That is the thinking of a mind so perverted it cannot think in its own best interest.

Make no mistake. You cannot be “America’s leading sex-advice columnist” without being mainstream. Dan Savage is a firmly ensconced member of the new establishment. MTV is owned by Viacom, the world’s fourth largest media conglomerate. It is a spinoff from the company that owns CBS. Viacom presently owns Paramount Pictures, Paramount Animation, MTV Films, Country Music Television, Black Entertainment Television, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Nick Jr., Logo, Spike, TV Land, and VH1. HBO is owned by Time-Warner, the second largest media conglomerate in the world. That’s mainstream!

His presence among the elite makes a great example of a Romans 1 in action. The humanist elite emphasize “the value and agency of human beings, individually and collectively,” but without God it becomes an exercise in futility — a house built on sand.

Humanism saw in Christian values a beautiful blossom. They wanted the blossom, but not the tree from which it sprang. So they cut the flower from the tree, and took it home to their schools, songs, games, and films. But cut off from its Source, the flower withered. Without the tree, there can be no fruit, and even the blossom’s beauty must quickly turn to dust.

That’s how humanism turns into nihilism. “Their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.” Humanists don’t “see fit to acknowledge God,” so He gives them over to depravity of mind — such as forced abortion for all women all over the world for the next thirty years, a crime of staggering evil.

Folks, our only hope is in the redeeming power of Jesus Christ. But what a glorious hope that is!

With a handle like "Savage" he is definitely named appropriately.

Now, can I get a show of hands from the audience? Who will be the first to volunteer?
