| First vote should be today... Cardinal Angelo Scola VS Cardinal Odilo Pedro Scherer [ Before Smoke Rises At Vatican, It’s Romans Versus The Reformers With all of the uproar over Vatican scandals, the Romans are aware that they may fail if they back one of their own, and so they are said to be coalescing behind the Brazilian, Cardinal Odilo Pedro Scherer, the archbishop of São Paulo. Cardinal Scherer is of German heritage, but his selection would give the Roman Catholic Church its first pope from Latin America. The region is home to about 40 percent of the world’s Catholics, and the church is staving off challenges there both from surging evangelical churches and a drift toward secularism. The reformers, led by the Americans and some influential Europeans, are reportedly uniting around the Italian, Cardinal Angelo Scola, the archbishop of Milan, a popular pastor and an erudite moral theologian. As an Italian, he is familiar with the culture that dominates the Vatican bureaucracy, but he is not a part of it or beholden to it. Agreed relative the Peter the Roman, but only representative of the first papal Peter in my humble opinion (I think that's what you mean anyway). The vatican is politics, politics, politics which is why I still think they'll march out Peter Turkson. Just like barry shabazz soetero nobambam he will leverage his skin color when necessary and if you oppose them it's because you're an atiquated Christian racist or whatever attack will be convenient at that time. Praise Jesus Christ who came in the flesh and died for all of us because this hot mess is drawing to a close; however long it takes from today and regardless of whatever nonsense must transpire first. edit to add: As mentioned by numerous people Africa represents the church's "growth" market for the $ bread $ of today. Ironically Turkson co-authored the 40 page church statement on the global financial crisis, corruption, etc.. He's also called publicly for a global "tax" to be governed by a third-party (the vatican of course) to assist the developing world, feeding the hungry, etc.. I don't mean to downplay the "charitable cause" but like everything U.N. ish 5 cents or so on the dollar is all that makes it to the "cause". The rest pays for gulfstream jets and gold rolexes. | |
