FARMERS FACING HUGE PRICE INCREASES AND LACK OF FEED CORN-THIS WILL RESULT IN EXPLOSIVE FOOD PRICE INCREASES
We are farmers in Nebraska. We do business with a local coop for our fertilizer and chemicals and there is also a large regional dealer in our area. Both places are telling long time customers that if you have not already ordered and prepayed for your fertilizer you will not be able to get it. Fertilizer prices have been flat for a few years so most people pay as the go to keep operating notes low...there could be a lot of farmers in a lot of trouble fast. Most "big" corn productions states are almost planted and would have gotten their supplies first. Nebraska is not one of these States. We are considered small in the corn world and are just started planting. This seems like just a local or regional problem on the surface.
Except Texas wheat farmers had problems getting fertilizer last fall and the problem is just going to escalate into this fall. There are a few reports that the fertilizer issue is world wide.
Also Nebraska has calves shipped in from all over the nation to be put on feed and slaughter. Our corn production goes mostly to cattle on feed. We feed it wet, dry, silage made from corn and the by product of ethanol. Limited Corn and Bankrupt Farmers in Nebraska = No beef supply for the Nation or the world.
No matter what objections one might have toward how agriculture is "done" in this world...to change the model drastically in less than a year will mean starvation for millions.
