| Man is comprised of 3 parts, spirit, soul, and body. The spirit of man is redeemed at the new birth experience in Jesus Christ and we are clothed in His righteousness because He is righteous. Not one of us is righteous unless we are in Him. When one is born again, that is the first thing that happens. One third of your being is redeemed at the new birth, righteous, holy, without spot or blemish, part of the Body of Christ. The unfortunate thing is that we still have two other parts of our being that are not yet redeemed. This is where things get tricky and where people get so confused over law, grace, judgment, sin, righteousness, etc... The soul which is the mind according to scripture is part of the purchased possession that has not yet been redeemed (See Ephesians 1:14) and must be redeemed by the Lord through an act of our will similar to when our spirit was redeemed through humbling ourselves and accepting the propitiation for our sins in Christ Jesus. The Word tells us repeatedly to renew our minds through the Word of God. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2 So we renew our mind and as we do the Word of God (AKA: Jesus, see John 1:14) begins the good work in us of conforming us to His likeness. Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ: Philippians 1:6 The mind is carnal by nature and therefore at enmity with God. (See Romans 8:7) The carnal mind is also completely ignorant concerning matters of the Spirit of God. (See 1 Corinthians 2:14) This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. Galatians 5:16 The enemy uses this carnal mind against us through temptation to walk in the flesh. If the mind is not renewed, we stay ignorant of the devices of the devil. We attempt to fight the enemy by our carnal mind, walking in the flesh and he beats us to a bloody pulp through guilt and condemnation because in ourselves, that is in our flesh, there is no good thing as Paul makes clear. (See Romans 7:18) However, if we renew our mind we realize that it is not us who lives, that old man, you know the one that was crucified with Jesus on the cross? He is dead and buried and by Jesus was raised up again in true righteousness and holiness. When we renew our mind enough to grasp this fact then the mystery that was kept secret from the foundation of the world is revealed in us by the Holy Spirit. To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Colossians 1:27 Now we know that: 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 Once the mind is renewed, we are two thirds of the way there. The body is the third and final part of us that has to be redeemed. At the return of the Lord Jesus, we will all throw off corruption and take on a body that is incorruptible. (See Romans 8:23) The really cool thing about renewing your mind is that as you renew your mind, the body will fall into place. The body is just a tool. It is our meat suit for existing on this physical plane and as such, we can make it a tool of the Spirit, or a tool of the carnal mind. Renew your mind, walk in the Spirit, and sin will no longer be an issue for you. We are not even supposed to have a consciousness of sin. Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple concerning evil. Romans 16:19 What you focus your attention on expands. Why do you think Paul said this: 7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing. Philippians 3:7-16 THIS ONE THING I DO... Get your mind off of sin and start walking in the righteousness that we have been granted in Christ Jesus. The purpose of the law has been fulfilled. The purpose of the law was to show us our sad state of being without our wonderful savior. Hate sin, hate evil, hate the devil and love those who are in his grasp enough to show them the truth that is the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. Remember that it is the love of God which draws men to repentance. (See Romans 2:4) And when finally they have that knowledge then perhaps they too will know this: 8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8 | |
