July 4 is Independence Day in the United States, and it took the Revolutionary War for it to occur. George Washington and his brave, often rag-tag soldiers won that hard fought war with some soldiers freezing to death at night.  Shoes were hard to come by; and soldiers would sometimes wrap their bare feet in leaves or padding, anything they could find. No army boots. There were not a lot of Moms who wanted to send their kids off to war. Who would?


There was much dissent about George Washington’s push for independence from England, and war protesters of the day thought being a colony of England was just fine. George Washington and his Band of Brothers did take the hard way instead of the easy way and formed what became, arguably, the most Christian Nation in the world, as well as the most powerful militarily and influentially… and the wealthiest.
One summation put it like this:

America[n] won its independence because it had the determination to hold out despite great suffering.  It had great leaders such as George Washington who took us through some quite dangerous times.  It was able to secure the help of another great super-power (France).  Most importantly, England was not willing to put in the immense resources necessary to stop it.  I think that made sense.  Prolonging the war would have only made both countries more miserable.


And the beat goes on.


Today’s USA is much different than the USA of the Founding Fathers; and the rewriters of history quickly point out that they had slavery, as thought they were the only society in the world who had ever done such a thing. The re-writers seem to have forgotten that almost 4,000 years ago it was the people of Africa who enslaved Israelites for 450 years. Slavery, unfortunately has a long history and is still occurring today.


In today’s USA, God is virtually banned from the public square; and this banning came at the hands of the New Fathers of our land and the Supreme Court Justices they have appointed. Leaders today spend much time trying to be inclusive rather than exclusive. They want to include the worship of all Gods, or none at all, instead of the worship of One; and they want to make sure the government doesn’t endorse one religion over another. Crosses and manger scenes have largely disappeared from public display unless one goes to a church, replaced by Pride Parades, Decadence Parades, free abortions and mandatory birth control.


And heaven forbid (which many of our leaders seem to think is a myth) if one describes the USA as a Christian Nation. “We’re no Christian Nation!” they shout from their spa tops and point to the separation clause, as though they know what Jefferson meant and which does not appear in the U.S. Constitution.


Some of the national talk-show hosts bristle and froth at the mouth if someone calls in and claims we’re a “Christian nation.”


That apparently is not what the Founding Fathers had in mind, and they were backed up by the university systems. Instead of protesting God, they revered Him in every way and in the public square. Here are a few examples:

And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without his Notice, is it probable that an Empire can rise without his Aid? We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that except the Lord build the House they labor in vain who build it. I firmly believe this, - and I also believe that without his concurring Aid, we shall succeed in this political Building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our little partial local interests; our Projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a Reproach and Bye word down to future Ages." ~ Benjamin Franklin

My how things have changed. The Supreme Court last week ruled in a split decision that Hobby Lobby does not have to fund abortion procedures for their employees. It was a 5/4 decision. What’s the deal with the other four? Today’s Supreme Court is not your great, great grandfather’s Supreme Court, as seen by these examples:

As we celebrate July 4th this year, our Supreme Court certainly is on a different wave length than the first Supreme Court. And what about our schools of higher learning today compared to way back then?

"All the scholars are required to live a religious and blameless life according to the rules of God's word, diligently reading the Holy Scriptures, that fountain of Divine light and truth, and constantly attending all the duties of religion." ~ Yale-1787 Student Guidelines


The 4th of July is so much more than hamburgers and fireworks. It is the celebration of the freedom afforded to us through the blood of a group of brave and religious men and women who decided not to take the easy way out, and much of the world at the time felt the USA was a blessed nation.


Even the Frenchman Achille Murat, a staunch atheist who found religion disgusting had this to say about early America in 1833:

The great number of religious societies existing in the United States is truly surprising: there are some of them for every thing; for instance, societies to distribute the Bible; to distribute tracts; to encourage religious journals; to convert, civilize, educate the savages; to marry the preachers; to take care of their widows and orphans; to preach, extend, purify, preserve, reform the faith; to build chapels, endow congregations, support seminaries."


The current Supreme Court is getting more chastisement than praise by American society it seems, because of their Hobby Lobby decision. What the gnashers of teeth don’t tell us is: Of the 20 contraception methods outlined by our protective and all-knowing federal government today, Hobby Lobby approved 16. The 4 they went to the Supreme Court to argue concerned the methods that actually caused an abortion.


God plainly states in the Bible what He thinks of casual-everyday sex, murder and a whole lot of other stuff.


This 4th of July I am afraid God weeps for the nation He blessed; because we have gotten so far away from the things He declared good and so close to those He declared bad.

This nation needs to have a God Pride Parade. So does Israel and Europe. Before it’s too late.
