A damning report from the Environmental Working Group has just revealed that drinking water for more than 170 million Americans in all 50 states contains radioactive elements that are shown to cause cancer. Not only does the report expose the deadly levels of radiation but it also shows that officials have been actively covering it up.
EWG’s investigation consisted of testing the water supplies of nearly 50,000 public water systems from all 50 states. Researchers found that from “2010 to 2015, more than 22,000 utilities in all 50 states reported radium in the treated water delivered to customers’ taps.”
Only a small percentage of the water supplies exceeded what the Environmental Protection Agency considers “safe;” however, their standards for legal radiation limits are more than 40 years old. EWG pointed out that, according to more recent standards, like those set in 2006 in California, nearly 100 percent of tested water supplies failed. These findings make Flint, Michigan look like child’s play.
“Most radioactive elements in tap water come from natural sources, but that doesn’t take away the need to protect people through stronger standards and better water treatment,” said Olga Naidenko, Ph.D., EWG’s senior science advisor for children’s environmental health. “Millions of Americans are drinking water with potentially harmful levels of radioactive elements, but the outdated federal standards mean many people don’t know about the risk they face when they turn on the tap.”
The problem is only getting worse, too. As EWG reports, the government has long known about this problem and has covered it up by fudging the numbers. Now, one of the people who admitted to fudging the numbers has just been nominated to head the White House Council on Environmental Quality, or CEQ.

The nominee, Kathleen Hartnett White, admitted in a 2011 investigation by Houston’s KHOU-TV that if utility tests found radiation levels over the EPA limit, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality would subtract the test’s margin of error to make it appear the water met federal standards. In some cases, this meant that Texans whose tap water posed the extraordinarily elevated lifetime cancer risk of 1 in 400 were not informed of the danger.
Hartnett White told KHOU she did not trust the science behind the EPA’s standard. When pressed by a reporter – “What if you’re wrong and EPA’s right?” – she said: “It would be regrettable.”

Not only did Hartnett White admit to the media they’d been cooking the books but last month, she told the Senate, who then rescinded her nomination. However, this week, Trump renominated her.
“Putting someone in charge of CEQ who deliberately falsified data to get around federal regulations is outrageous, and the fact that her deception left people at serious risk of cancer is even more alarming,” said Scott Faber, EWG’s vice president of government affairs. “The Senate should reject this radioactive nominee.”

“With the renomination of Kathleen Hartnett White to the White House Council of Environmental Quality, President Trump is failing these 170 million at-risk Americans who are drinking contaminated water,” said Christy Goldfuss, vice president for energy and environmental policy at the Center for American Progress. “When Hartnett White was tasked with addressing radiation in Texas’s drinking water as a government official, she regularly and deliberately underreported the amount of radiation in drinking water, keeping families in the dark about their health and safety. Putting her in charge of the Council of Environmental Quality could do untold damage to even more Americans. With today’s data revealed, it is even more vital that our leaders and representatives prioritize clean and safe drinking water for all.”
There you have it. Americans are slowly being given cancer by their government and not only is one of the people responsible for covering it up not getting held accountable, she’s getting a massive promotion.

The false alarm in Hawaii yesterday should be an enormous wake-up call. It should inspire everyone, everywhere to make a survival shelter plan.
While people who panicked are busy pointing fingers at the person who allegedly “hit the wrong button” and sent out a message warning of an incoming missile and to seek immediate shelter, where should that finger really point?
Hardly anyone had a plan for where they would take shelter.
For 38 minutes, hysteria reigned supreme across the island state after Hawaiians awoke to this message on their cell phones.

On the television, the following warning was issued:

I can’t even imagine how it must have felt to think that your life was about to end in the next 15 minutes. In some places, sirens were blaring. People were screaming and crying. Stories across social media spoke of the terror.

Social media users posted videos, photos, and testimonials about residents hurriedly taking up shelter while thinking they were under attack.
 ‘I was sitting in the bathtub with my children, saying our prayers,’ Hawaii state representative Matt LoPresti told CNN in emotional interview after false missile alert.
One Twitter user wrote: ‘My family was hiding in the garage. My mom and sister were crying. It was a false alarm, but betting a lot of people are shaken.’ (source)

Visitors were also left reeling.

California resident Elizabeth Fong is in Hawaii looking to buy a house and received the alert. She said she didn’t receive a correction alert stating it was a false alarm until 8:46 a.m., 39 minutes after the initial alert.
The aftermath of the false alert was “crazy,” she told NBC Bay Area, and prompted people to run around on the streets “crying and screaming,” wondering what to do.
“I prayed to God and asked for forgiveness of my sins and for Him to protect us,” she said, adding that people are still shaken up. (source)

There are videos of desperate parents putting their children into the storm drains to try and save them. There are first-person stories about the longest 38 minutes of people’s lives.

Why didn’t anyone have a survival plan?

The most important part of preparedness is planning ahead. Hawaii has been the state at greatest risk of an attack by North Korea. There were reports of an outright threat against Hawaii. There have been drills and meetings in which only a few people participated. Many people didn’t even notice the sirens being tested.
For months, the media has been full of stories about the risks of a ballistic missile attack on Hawaii and yet, many people had no idea where they would take shelter.
And shelter is only the first concern – what about the weeks of fallout in which people would need to shelter in place? What about food? Water? Search and rescue?
What about a plan?
It isn’t all about fear to make a contingency plan. No one really knows why or how this alert was sounded, but the fact remains that there was wholesale panic. When we are prepared, we don’t need to panic.

Survival Shelter Checklist

There are two things for which people would need to prepare: the blast and the fallout.
No one WANTS to think about this kind of thing, but it’s oh-so-important. Keep in mind that a survival shelter doesn’t have to be a “bunker” in the traditional sense. (Although how awesome would that be?) It could be your basement, an interior room in the house, a room with fewer windows and access points, or a room that you can harden if necessary. If there is absolutely no place in your home where you can shelter, find out if the town where you reside has a public fallout or blast shelter. The goal is to put as much MASS between you and the outside air as possible.
Answer the following questions:

• Where would you take shelter for 14-21 days?
  
  
• Do you have the necessary supplies to fortify your shelter? (Duct tape, heavy plastic, boards, sandbags – seal off windows, doors, vents, and any other place where a draft can get through)
  
  
• Is the shelter stocked with enough food for you to wait for the radiation to dissipate?
  
  
• Do you have a way to safely cook it? Alternatively, do you have foods that don’t require cooking?
  
  
• Do you have blankets and comfort items?
  
  
• Do you have enough water for everyone?
  
  
• Do you have potassium iodide and do you know how to take it? (Learn here)
  
  
• How would you use the bathroom in your shelter? (Learn to make a kitty litter toilet)
  
  
• How would your pets do their business? (Puppy pads? Newspaper? Litter box?)
  
  
• Do you have enough pet food?
  
  
• Do you have supplies for special needs like diapers, formula, medications, comfort items?
  
  
• Do you have something for people to do while you shelter in place? (Games, crafts, books?)

You need to make this survival shelter plan now. Whether you live in Hawaii, a city, or out in the country, you absolutely must be ready. If that warning comes to your phone, you will be much calmer if you know what you are going to do.

“Significant” tunneling work has been detected at North Korea’s Punggye-ri nuclear test site, according to a Washington-based think tank that monitors the communist state’s activities.
A report issued Thursday by 38 North says the activity — spotted in satellite images taken last month — underscores Pyongyang’s efforts to maintain the site despite news that tunnel collapses killed several hundred people there after its sixth and most powerful nuclear test on Sept. 3.

While work remains dormant at the “North Portal,” which is the site of the past five underground blasts, the satellite images show that excavation work at the “West Portal” has been “stepped up,” said 38 North, which is run by Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies.
“Throughout December 2017, mining carts and personnel were consistently present around the West Portal and there was significant expansion of the spoil pile,” the report said. “On December 28, there were also a large number of personnel observed in seven different formations whose purpose is unknown in the Southern Support Area.”
38 North said it is rare to see people in that support area, and the purpose of their activities is unknown.
Water was seen draining from the north portal’s entrance, the report said, adding that no other significant activity was observed at Punggye-ri’s other facilities.
38 North’s report comes the same week that North Korea agreed to send athletes and officials to next month’s Winter Olympics in the South and to discuss easing military hostilities.
A high-profile meeting with the South in the truce village of Panmunjom was held Tuesday after more than two years of crisis over North Korea’s nuclear weapons progress, beginning with the communist state’s fourth nuclear test in January 2016. The North has since conducted two other nuclear tests and test-fired dozens of missiles, most recently an ICBM on Nov. 29.
