U.S. and North Korean negotiators broke off high-level nuclear talks after months of negotiations between the two countries.

North Korea's top official present for negotiations with the U.S. told reporters that the U.S. had brought nothing to the table for the latest round of talks.

“The negotiations have not fulfilled our expectation and finally broke off,” Kim Myong Gil said.

“The U.S. raised expectations by offering suggestions like a flexible approach, new method and creative solutions, but they have disappointed us greatly and dampened our enthusiasm for negotiation by bringing nothing to the negotiation table," he added, according to Reuters.

A request for comment Saturday to the State Department was not immediately returned. The halt in negotiations come a month after North Korean leader Kim Jong Un invited President Trump to Pyongyang, the first time such an invitation was extended to a U.S. president.

shortly afterwards, the US state department released a contradictory statement from spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus.

"The early comments from the DPRK [North Korean] delegation do not reflect the content or the spirit of today's 8.5-hour discussion," it read. "The US brought creative ideas and had good discussions with its DPRK counterparts."
Washington has also accepted Sweden's invitation to host more talks in two weeks' time, Ms Ortagus said.

The Hermit Kingdom launched the Pukguksong-3 missile Wednesday, its first underwater-launched ballistic missile test in three years, just days before stalled nuclear talks with Washington were scheduled to resume this weekend.
And now that the nuclear talks are broken off, new nuclear tests will resume.
