Subject: FIRE DANGER - MY AREA! UPDATE 8-30 @ 11:30 AM 222,000+ acres Tue Aug 20, 2013 11:13 pm
It might be premature to ask for a few prayers but maybe not... wind is still blowing my direction. I'll know more by morning, as it is not far away. My bad situation is, my truck is being repaired at home at the moment (transmission), hope to have underneath tomorrow ready for help to reinstall. Making some plans already... I have 3 homes together so I am concerned as at the moment it is "0" Containment! And Very Dry Here. Don't hear the fire planes like normal.. because they are probably operating out of Groveland which has an airport to operate out of... they usually fly in and out of Columbia a State Historical Mining Town, which takes them over my house all the time.
We just had one up the hill near areas we like to camp in. Shame to see so much forest burn.
These areas are rugged with many steep rocky canyons so many chopaloptors and planes needed.. the usual for remote country, there are a number of USFS backwoods unpaved roads but are winding making access time slow.
I think the fire has been deemed suspicious... we'll see later. Thanks in advance
SNIPPET: Jerry Snyder with the Stanislaus National Forest reports that the Rim Fire is now close to 11,000 acres. Two homes have been destroyed, as well as five outbuildings. There are 2,500 structures considered in danger. Snyder says no injuries have been reported as a result of the fire. ************** http://www.mymotherlode.com/news/local/2215987/Air-Quality-Alert-Issued-For-Tuolumne-County.html

The Rim Fire Arrives At Highway 120 View Slideshow (7 Photos) August 20, 2013 06:00 am B.J. Hansen, MML News Director
Groveland, CA -- The Big Oak Flat-Groveland Unified School District has cancelled classes today, district wide.
It was scheduled to be the first day of school, but Superintendent Dave Urquhart says the smoke and closed roads pose too much of a safety hazard. The Rim Fire in the Stanislaus National Forest has burned over 4,400 acres. Yesterday the fire jumped over the Tuolumne River and over Highway 120, prompting a complete closure of 120 between Groveland and Yosemite. The Highway remains closed until further notice, and traffic leaving Yosemite National Park is forced to use an alternate route.
25 structures are threatened, and 285 firefighters are on scene.
Advisory evacuations are in place for the Buck Meadows area in Mariposa County, and in Tuolumne County at the San Jose Family Camp, Rainbow Pool, Yosemite Inn, Early Intake, Evergreen Lodge, Packard Canyon and the Spinning Wheel Forest Service Facility. An evacuation center is set up at Tioga High School with assistance from the Red Cross. That evacuation center is expected to move to the Mother Lode Fairgrounds later today.
A special thanks to our community news partners Rick Martinez, Suzanne Ctibor, Mike McEvoy, Jerry Day and Doug Schmiett for sending in photos of the fire. They can be e-mailed to news@clarkebroadcasting.com.

16,282 acres of beautiful forest already consumed, 850 fire fighters already there this morning. This area is near the Clavey River, one of a few wild ones left untouched by dams. Very Smokey here this morning. Ash has been on lawn furniture and deck for last two days. Not bad though. Wind maybe changing later today as the Delta breeze from the S.F. Bay is coming into the valley this morning .. but usually takes a day to change up here in the mountains... not sure yet how this southern wind higher up will affect this. Part of my day will be to get this truck transmission ready to go in tomorrow, in case I need to haul stuff. They have reverse 911 advisories in some areas south of me and I believe to the east of fire. We have not received one. I don't think it's close enough yet.
Thanks for all the prayers, they are really appreciated!!!!
will keep posted.

Update: Checked my USFS map and we are about 12-16 mi. from one finger of the fire. The wind N. at this altitude and we are slightly NW and right now there seems to be no wind at my location.. but I am in a dead end canyon "hole" so I can't see anything going on above. Anyway.. the mileage is of concern at the moment.

And while many will laugh at this I know you won't. Keep in mind everything that's burning probably has a decent bit of bio-accumulated radiation in it from FUKU. A hard burn releases it all at once.

No laughs, you are correct, absorbed through the growing process taken out of the ground. All crops too... the University of Berkeley has done the studies as soon as it came over... individual plants were listed... I posted quite a while back on the old forum... may want to go to the University web site and I think it's under the radiological section.

Sonora, CA -- The Tuolumne County Supervisors are awaiting word from Governor Jerry Brown.
This afternoon the Board held a special meeting and voted to ask the Governor to call for immediate State of Emergency related to the Rim Fire.
Additional outside fire resources have been arriving by air and ground all throughout the afternoon. The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office continues to recommend that the residents in the Pine Mountain Lake subdivision leave their homes and find a safer location. There are approximately 3,000 homes in that area. This afternoon, officials also evacuated Camp Mather, Diamond O, and Hetch Hetchy Proper.
An evacuation center remains open at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.
Also, the Big Oak Flat-Groveland Unified School District has cancelled classes in the district for the remainder of the week. Tuolumne County Office of Education buses for Special Ed will not be running this week.
The following is the complete resolution approved this afternoon by the Tuolumne County Supervisors:
RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF TUOLUMNE WHEREAS, In accordance with Chapter 2.40 ofthe County of Tuolumne Ordinance Code, which empowers the Director of Emergency Services to proclaim the existence or threatened existence of a local emergency when Tuolumne County is affected or likely to be affected by a public disaster and the County Board of Supervisors is not in session; and WHEREAS, on August 19, 2013, the Director of Emergency Services of the County of Tuolumne declared that conditions of extreme peril to the safety of person and property had arisen in the County due to the Rim wildland fire; and WHEREAS, a Local State of Emergency was declared by the Director of Emergency Services on August 19 and then ratified by the full Board of Supervisors on August 20; and WHEREAS, the Rim Fire is now directly threatening various communities and businesses within the County and is beyond our capabilities.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors does hereby request the Governor of the State of California Proclaim a State of Emergency. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County of Tuolumne also requests the State of California to waive regulations that may hinder response and recovery efforts, to make available recovery assistance under the California Disaster Assistance Act, and to expedite access to federal resources and any other appropriate federal relief programs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED AND ORDERED that the local State of Emergency shall be deemed to continue to exist until its termination is proclaimed by the Board of Supervisors, County of Tuolumne, State of California.
A special thanks to our community news partners Aaron Watterson, Professional Video, David Wilkinson, David Wheat, Paul Epp, Linda King, Sylvia Fraga, Lance Seagraves for sending in photos of the Rim Fire. They can be emailed to news@clarkebroadcasting.com.

Groveland, CA -- The Air National Guard confirms that two HH-60G Pave Hawk Helicopters are on their way to the Rim Fire in the Stanislaus National Forest.
A spokesperson for the Air National Guard says they left Mather Air Force Base this morning and should arrive any moment. The helicopters are similar to a Blackhawk, and incorporate the US Air Force PAVE electronic systems program.
"Almost immediately after receiving orders to provide support for our wildfire operations from headquarters in Sacramento, our airmen gathered their gear and headed to Mather," says Col. Steven J. Butow in a statement. "As rescue professionals, we have the ability to respond rapidly to any challenge we're given, anytime and anywhere."
Last year the 129th Rescue Wing dropped more than 250,000 gallons of water on wildfires across California.
The Air National Guard reports that the helicopters received their assignments at Mather Air Force Base and are equipped with buckets to make drops. Over 850 firefighters are on scene of the Rim Fire. The latest estimate is that it is around 16,200 acres and 5% contained.

August 22, 2013 02:16 pm Tracey Petersen, MML News Reporter Sacramento, CA -- We should learn soon about the request to Governor Jerry Brown for a state of emergency declaration due to the Rim Fire. One person calling for that to happen is District 14 Senator Tom Berryhill. "I want to make sure that our first responders have all the resources they need to continue battling this blaze. We ask that you pray for their safety and the safety of residents in the fire's path," says Berryhill. If a State of Emergency is declared by the Governor it would open up the door for state money to help battle the blaze. Berryhill urges the Governor to make the call saying, "This is a true disaster for the citizens of Tuolumne County. The fire continues to burn out of control, despite the best efforts of more than 1000 firefighters. Tuolumne is not a wealthy county. All federal and state assistance will be needed to help cover the costs associated with a fighting a fire of this magnitude." Wednesday afternoon the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors asked the Governor to call for immediate State of Emergency related to the Rim Fire. Plans are being put in place for a possible declaration, but the Governor has yet to sign off. Some of the Governor's Office of Emergency Services fire engines have arrived in Groveland in anticipation, indicating that an announcement could be made sometime soon. OOOPS... WHILE COMPOSING THIS:
FIRE NOW 105,620. LINK: http://www.mymotherlode.com/news/local/2220259/Rim-Fire-Over-105000-Acres.html
My concern is now what kind of overreach the Fed will have in my county and when or if it will end. The evil agencies I hope will be limited to the fire area and not into home or 2 amendment rights. One has to wonder where we are at when these things go Federal. F E M A will be involved I am sure. How far will it go these days?
As I write this it has suddenly gotten like fog.. smoke but not new burnt smell... couple day old smoldered like, just in the past 10 minutes and visibility dropped too... it was clear all night and about 4:40 when I woke up, couldn't sleep, back is not comfortable. Looks like the fire grew in all directions, of NOTE is that the DC10 converted airliner can only replenish fire retardant in Victorville Ca. near L.A. in the Upper Desert or McLellan
August 22, 2013 03:09 pm B.J. Hansen, MML News Director Groveland, CA -- Governor Jerry Brown has approved the Tuolumne County Supervisors request for a State of Emergency declaration. It opens the door for increased state money and resources to help battle the 53,866 acre fire in the Stanislaus National Forest. As you can see in the photo, the Governor's Office of Emergency trucks arrived at Mary Laveroni Park earlier today. The complete declaration is below: A PROCLAMATION OF A STATE OF EMERGENCY WHEREAS a wildfire started on August 17, 2013, and continues to burn in Tuolumne County; and WHEREAS the fire has burned over 53,000 acres, damaged homes, and is threatening 2,500 other residences, necessitating the evacuation of residents, and the opening of emergency shelters; and WHEREAS on August 19, 2013, Tuolumne County proclaimed a local emergency and requested that I proclaim a state of emergency; and WHEREAS the circumstances of this wildfire, by reason of their magnitude, are or are likely to be beyond the control of the services, personnel, equipment and facilities of any single county, city and county, or city and require the combined forces of a mutual aid region or regions to combat; and WHEREAS under the provisions of section 8558(b) of the California Government Code, I find that conditions of extreme peril to the safety of persons and property exists within the County of Tuolumne due to these events. NOW, THEREFORE, I, EDMUND G. BROWN, JR., Governor of the State of California, in accordance with the authority vested in me by the State Constitution and statutes, including the California Emergency Services Act, and in particular, section 8625 of the California Government Code, HEREBY PROCLAIM A STATE OF EMERGENCY to exist within Tuolumne County. IT IS HEREBY ORDERED THAT: All agencies of the state government utilize and employ state personnel, equipment, and facilities for the performance of any and all activities consistent with the direction of the Governor's Office of Emergency Services and the State Emergency Plan. I FURTHER DIRECT that as soon as hereafter possible, this proclamation be filed in the Office of the Secretary of State and that widespread publicity and notice be given of this proclamation. IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 22nd day of August, 2013.
this to add from another link: Supervisor Reynolds says two 737 airplanes will pick up hand crews from around the United States and fly them into Sacramento airport. Those extra crews will be on hand by Saturday to fight the blaze. The U.S. Forest Service is concerned with fire management while CalFire is focused on fire suppression. Both teams are working together since the fire began to threaten homes.
and this one: Supervisor Reynolds says their team contacts local resources for food, water and anything else that is requested and approved for use to fight the fire. When local resources have been used they send their requests to a Statewide Incident team, if they do not have the resources it escalates to a National level request. The incident center is generally staffed and operates until midnight, crews work on 12 hour shifts around the clock with fire status briefings at 6AM and 6PM.

This amount of burned acres is now frightening... I don't know exactly how close it is to Toulumne which is just a few miles away, THIS IS CHANGING TO FAST AND THE MAP IS NOT UPDATED YET! AND I HAVE WRITTEN THE NEWS OUTLET TO GET BETTER QUALITY MAP WITH LEGIBLE NAMES!
Too hard to see names on maps makes difficult to see on your own USFS map. I'm not happy about this poor reporting on the burn area, the wind is changing directions around the whole area near by so all I can do is watch those two towns of Groveland which is right next to the center of the burn area and the town of Toulumne to the N.W.
I know it is getting closer!
Here is the current crappy closed are map: http://www.mymotherlode.com/news/local/popupM.php?PID=2219347%202219321%202219316%202219211%202219238%202219137%202219133&ID=2219349

Toulumne has recieved it's warning before evacuation and retardant is being dropped in advance to slow this fire. Also one other area close to this town has recieved the warning too. If you all want to follow this it's all at mymotherlode.com which also has a weather link as seen before, which has wind. I live NW of Toulumne on the Northern side of Highway 108 If ya don't hear from me in the morning I may have had to leave and will connect with laptop when I find a chair and net connection. I don't have bad feelings yet about it, we'll just say I'm very concerned. Even if the truck is not repaired in time we have a 1937 Ford Flat bed and I can use the trailer with it. My Daughter lives in one of the houses so we have bunch a stuff to take so I'm sure it will look like the Beverly Hillbillies. Any way gotta get back to fixing stuff. Bad news will start the loading and then back to fixing before we leave. Hope to post from home tomorrow!!

10:10 pm here. WE ARE NEXT IN LINE FOR THE EVACUATION ADVISORY. I hope it does not come at night!
The Advisory is as close as Hwy 108 now, I live about 1-1.5 from there, no one can go into Toulumne City (town) now except residents. Fire has not reached them yet but they have tons of equipment and a battle line there and concentrating effort also @ Yosmite Natl. Park, Hetch Hetchy Res. as it supplies San Fransisco water.
Morning I am changing trailer ball on the 37 ford for my trailer and loading up, get back to my truck repair while waiting.
I pray everything will work in our favor to leave if necessary. Morning will tell.

Yup, I'm up, gotta get coffee waffles. Not light yet but can see the smoke with outside flood light. 125,000 + acres now.. wind is going NE in Toulumne and Groveland so that is good but not for the forest.... only 5% contained. Hopefully how the day will start: One dump run by other members of family early am. Return, load trailer and flatbed truck and be ready. Boxed important stuff, and albums (old). Food stuff last. Take pictures of all rooms of house, shop machinery unmoveable tooling, property... for insurance. (crap this all sucks) Family seems ok now, but if it is all lost? Smokey (the nose, Mini-Dachshund) and 8 Angora Rabbits, ready. We aren't supposed to water ... so I suppose we loose what's left in the garden (28x32) if we leave. They want all the water tanks in area available (full).
I may or may not do some update before the laptop is disconnected provided the cable is not intermittant.
So, NO Evac Advisory calls yet. May get truck fixed yet.

Hey Spring ~
What Jem said:
"This is a good record on what it's like to go through a disaster. Your wife and children are lucky to have you looking out for them and maybe this will give them understanding and appreciation for all of your survival preparations. God bless and watch over all."
Wow, that speaks of restoration for you regarding your loved ones at least that's how I hear it....and yes, continued prayers. We here in So Cal.desert got a big downpour of rain, thunder and dime and pea sized hail earlier...unusual.I don't know if you are or will get any of this particular weather event(s), but it's supposed to be off and on for days.We here sure need the moisture, but for your area it is imperative. So I pray for rain to come to you up there in the name of Jesus. The peace of God for your family to sustain you in all ways brother. ~ winds~

This morning: (not sure if news updated yet) 129,620 acres 200 sq. mi. 7% containment 2,637 firefighters, but the good news so far, is that:
On the western side of the fire, crews successfully conducted firing operations to bring the fire line down to the Tuolumne River in efforts to keep the fire from spreading to the west toward Highway 108 corridor. ---------- this is where I am at, next to 108. So at the moment good news.
So at the road on the other side they are still on evactuation advisory.. but not us Thankfully!
My truck repair efforts have not produced a drivable vehicle yet. I worked on it 6 hrs yesterday. Have a couple things to check that can be done without major work to see if it will fix the problem but one will not repair in short time. Anyways I'm not worried about that... I'm beat, too much under vehicle work for my back.
Thanks for all those prayers!!!!

I've been praying for God to send the rain. Enough to snuff the fires out or at least enough give firefighters better odds in their favor. People, along with prayers for Spring and all the others affected by this fire, don't forget to pray for rain.

Subject: Rim Fire Over 200,000 Acres Fri Aug 30, 2013 9:44 am
Tuolumne County, CA -- The Rim Fire Incident Command Team says over 200,000 acres have now burned. The fire is estimated to be 201,894 acres and its 32% contained. 4,931 firefighters are on scene this morning. Information from the Incident Command reads as follows: Burnout operations continued overnight in the southeastern area of the fire. Fire crews continued construction of fire line along 3N01 Road to stop fire spread to the north. Structure defense continues in Pinecrest, Mi-Wuk Village, Confidence, Cold Springs, and Hodgdon Meadow. Today's plans are to continue the burnout in the Yosemite National Park south of Hetch Hetchy. If conditions allow, the Duckwall Mountain north to Fahey Meadow burnout will start. Air operations will be used to support all firefighting efforts, as needed. The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Department on Thursday lifted the evacuation advisory for Tuolumne City, Soulsbyville and Willow Springs. The evacuation advisory remains in effect for Ponderosa Hills and areas east, along the south side of Highway 108 up to Pinecrest.

Smoke was so bad yesterday that my wife and I went down the hill to Elk Grove south of Sacramento to buy a new 4x4 truck and get away from smoke related headaches. Wind did come up later in day so our area had some relief. On the way home we saw how close it was to our area as it burned on ridges nearby. It is burning in a sort of ring and still threatens the area, it is a little scary to see such a long area burning so close! Now 5000 firefighters on scene. Yesterday we didn't see any planes on the way back and I suspect they are all near Yosemite Park as that is where most of the hot spots and large plume are... you can see the plume from over 100 miles away and the whole Sierra Mountain Range is in a smoke cloud. All schools have been closed for entire week including colleges. Going later today to pick up the new truck and this morning I continue try to get the old one moving. Anyway that's the report... I believe we are out of danger now but please pray for the speedy containment as much old growth forest in Yosemite is threatened and keep in prayers those firefighters! Thanks for all the prayers peeps!

Thanks for the update. Heard one report saying that this may be the worst forest fire in California History. Yikes! Gotta be tough to live like you are, in constant fear and constant preparedness to evacuate. Stressfull for you.
Praying for rain and relief soon. Glad the wind is blowing in your favor because its the flying embers that really spread a fire.
Hope the weather changes this weekend for you.

Proskuneo, thanks we really appreciate you all watching and praying, of primary concern is for containment!
It looks like we are close to 35%, they expect a lot more by Sept. 10. It's too long! It is now such a huge ecological disaster! Some beautiful high mountain lakes have lost all surrounding timber.. becoming a real tear jerker here, these are remote huge hunting, fishing and camping areas!
This is just a great loss of timber around remote high mountain lakes and streams. It's like loosing a home! So much hunting, fishing and camping areas that most outsiders never venture into because of lack of stores or facilities. Emotional for me because I love my outdoors so much!
Currenty ::: Tuolumne County, CA -- The Rim Fire is now 219,277 acres or 343 square miles and is still 35% contained. There are 4,995 firefighters battling the blaze at a cost of $54.8 million to date.
This morning it is so bad smoke wise it just chokes you into running into the house. It was clear until 2:00am and ya need to close windows quick or the smell stays in all day. Your clothes smell like you've been around the campfire all week, I can deal with that but I have asthma from a chemical exposure and this isn't much fun when one gets to choking coughing and throwing up from the flem generated in your airways. 11:20 here now and I can't go outside at all. Need to wait until the afternoon breeze kicks in to blow some away, but may not get it today as the upper clouds are moving NW.
We did pick up a new vehicle and I was able to get my transmission fully functional yesterday also, had received the wrong gaskets for the valve body which does the shifting. Wrong gaskets allowed a pressure leak so it wouldn't move in gear. So thankfully the local transmission shop had in stock the correct ones. Now my beater Chevy is working again. Praise the Lord! Small prayers were answered in regard to the fire and my efforts to get the primary hauler fixed.
Right now I just ask for containment of the fire so it does not damage anymore and safety for the firefighters.. as this fire is now difficult due to the intense heat generated.
