THEY call the Vatican the Holy See, but Pope Francis had trouble seeing at all thanks to strong winds which caused a series of wardrobe malfunctions. Strong wind gusts whipped around St Peter’s Square, catching Pope Francis off guard as he greeted crowds of the faithful.
It whipped at his white mantle and even plucked his skullcap from the top of his head.

The fine white cloth frequently flapped up and over the Pope’s face, but he quietly contained any frustration and joined the crowd in laughing it off.
The pontiff simply smoothed down his clothes and rearranged his mantle — and his smile — to continue with his weekly address.

Yesterday’s will-of-the-wind is not the only time Pope Francis has appeared capless in public.
In December a young child pulled the badge of office from him — and patted his head.
