(UPDATED 1:21 PM EDT - See bottom) Most of the top tier communications companies are suddenly seeing surges in outages as of about 10:00 AM Wednesday.  Verizon, COmcast, AT&T, Sprint, COX, Suddenlink and others are suddenly seeing huge spikes in reported outages; all with no explanation.  Maps of outage areas showing below:

UPDATE 1:21 PM EDT --
Communications failures are now spreading.  CELLULAR service on Verizon Wireless is now FAILING in the NYC/NJ area.  Outbound cell calling is now patchy at best; with calls failing before dialing, or failing during the call itself.  My family members fell back to texting and now THAT is failing as well.  We have fallen back to our EMERGENCY COMMUNICATIONS capabilities with Repeater-based two-way radios.  If repeaters fail, we can fall back to simplex Radio frequencies.
More than two weeks ago, starting on October 12, this web site alerted readers to warnings from government being givento large contractors and businesses to "prepare immediately" for potential COMMS GRID failures.  That story (HERE), then an additional confirmation of such warnings days later (HERE) seems to be unfolding right now.
