I feel that perhaps this has happened many times before, the consequence of a timeline shift.

For instance, Tartaria.  As though it wasn't just dismantled, but existed on a different timeline matrix and was replaced. It certainly was deviated from, but 'severely' enough to denote a reality split,
where the Official version branched off in a new direction, and it was left behind? Like CRISPR, kind of.  It was just cut out-removed, and a different reality inserted.
There could still be remnants of it's existence here and about. Some old pictures, artifacts etc. that bled through to the new timeline. 

If this is/was the case, then what happens to the old timelines that are left behind?  
Does it retain sufficient energy to continue evolving?
