I had a consult with Kirk Elliott's company. It took 3 weeks to get the phone appt.
One of the things I talked to them about was transferring an existing IRA to metals through them, what was involved and when did charges and TAX LIABILITYs occur. In this case taxes are deferred until you sell some metals. And you have to figure out what currency you will be paid in.
Such a transfer means storage of the physical metals. They use a company named STRATA. I had a couple 'feelings' after checking them out.
You can also buy metals from Elliott and have them shipped to you. If you use IRA funds to do that, you must first sell and withdraw money from the IRA and at that point you do pay taxes.
There's ALOT to consider, though I do think buying metals is a prudent thing to do in the face of so many uncertainties and confusing information.
